The following list of systems,sub-systems and titles shows examples of the breakdown of a 'TYPICAL' manual according to ATA100.
the major divisions are termed 'Groups' ,each group being divided into Chapters and allocated blocks of chapter numbers. Thus:- GROUP CHAPTER NUMBERS Aircraft General 1-19 Aircraft Systems 20-49 Structures 50-59 Propellers/Rotor 60-69 Power Plant 70-89 Each chapter is arranged alphabetically in a group and is divided into sections and then sub-divided into subjects designated by a 'dash number' e.g. 24-21-8 Chapter section subject 24 -21 -8 Electrical -Main Generation -Voltage Power regulator e.g. 52-10-2 52 -10 -2 Doors -Passenger/Crew -Rear door Passenger Each subjectis then further divided into page groups in blocks of 100 assigned as follows:- 1-100 Description and Operation 101-200 Trouble Shooting 201-300 Maintenance practices So, 52-10-2-95 may give a desription of how the door handle locks 52-10-2-125 may give an indication of what to look for if the door doesn't lock 52-10-2-225 might tell you how to remove the defective door lock. etc Her are some Chapters that might deal with as an 'insty' Chapter 22 Auto Flight 00 General 10 Auto Pilot 20 Speed-Attitude Correction 30 Auto Throttle Chapter 23 COMMUNICATIONS 00 General 10 High Frequency 20 VHF/UHF Chapter 31 INDICATING/RECORDING 00 General 10 Unassigned 20 Unassigned 30 Recorders 40 Central Computers 50 Central Warning Computers Chapter 39 ELECTRICAL/ELECTRONIC PANELS AND MULTIPURPOSE COMPONENTS 00 General 10 Instument and control panels 20 Electronic Equipment racks Chapter 77 ENGINE INDICATING 00 General 10 Power 20 Temperatures 30 Analysers As you can see it does not really matter what A/C you work on as long as it conforms to ATA100 you will be able to find the correct part of the correct manual to solve your problem (SURE !) as it will always be in the same place. This is the basic typical gist if there are any glaring mistekes in my text I'm sure somebody will correct me. GOOD LUCK. ------------------ With Ice Please [This message has been edited by Sid and Coke (edited 18 April 2001).] |
