Thrust setting selection - potential problems?

Hi,

I’ve got a question for those who can answer in regard to the Take-Off and Go-around selection thrust settings.

On the Airbus A340 I believe that these are similar (if not equal). If this is the case, why have two different settings?

Secondly, are there any potential problems if an aircraft inadvertently selects Take-Off instead of Go-Around?

Thanks.

Not too sure I get the question. On every a/c I have worked TOGA is just that. Take Off/Go Around thrust. They are the same and will vary together dependant on external variables.

It is possible to derate the take off thrust used (usually using an assumed temperature method) but even in this case, manually moving the throttle levers (Airbus or Boeing) fully forward will result in full TOGA thrust.
