Post Need some help in regards to the EGPWS database

Hi all,

when I tried to update the EGPWS database, I noticed that the card provided by Honeywell is way too expensive which I would never get the budget from my boss. Do you guys have any solution? I tried the PCMCIA ATA Card from TOPSSD, but seems I must use PCMCIA LF Card? Tks guys for your help

Find another boss, when you purchase a TDB from Honeywell you are purchasing the license. Same goes with any other legit software, stay safe!

Your boss is not signing for the update. Its your responsibility and only the AMM or other document will give you the required way of doing it. Be a certifying tech/eng or you will find you can be pushed around for ever

Which aircraft type and registered in what couuntry please?

In dependence of a/c type and register, updates are mandatory by regulator.

updates are mandatory by regulator.
Total agreement with the responses re legit software etc..

However, I cannot find any reference to a specific regulatory requirement with regards to (the frequency of) updating EGPWS databases?

Can anyone point me in the right direction?

The earth is constantly shifting, my best guess is that they have a threshold for correctness from geological reports and man made changes to the earth.

Well, now I'm not so sure: I find a reference and is not an FAA SB, it's, I believe, an Honeywell SB 965-0976/1690-34-130 which states in pag 10. E> Compliance, that operator makes a decision if this conversion is necessary or not. If that is true, You have to live with that!

Happy Thanks Giving

Hi, you need a linear flash and an omnidrive or similar to update the card for the Honeywell MK 5 and 7 cards, other than that it's basically a cut and paste of the files, you can't swap cards/ types
The MK 8 cards are an ATA card so can be done using a normal PCMCIA slot.
All the files are available to download if you have access to them via the Honeywell ADS site, it's also where you'll find any Nav D/B and tech pubs you have access to.
I've not seen any other options loaded to a Honeywell EGPWS and have always used the same database for all the aircraft I work on, but there are a few options listed.
The expensive part is really the omnidrive and linear flash as they work out at around $450 each. I can't comment on costs for the access to the databases.
If you set up access to the Honeywell site and ask for email notifications they update you when they're released, they find seen to update to any pattern and each type is not at the same time.
Hope this helps, what type are you wanting to update?
Mark
