Thumbs up 787

Reason I used this 787 example was because of the flex in the wing. If you were 19 and a year one student I would "ball you out" ..ahem! Keep trying!

The wing is designed to flex more, having lower stiffness through material design and structural weight saving?

Is this wing flex more efficient? Is it purely a weight saving exercise?

The new composite materials used in aircraft design

Yeah the wings are flexing upover. That means they are under load. They flex more than most and so they really show how those wings are lifting the central "tube" of the airplane.

The pic is frozen in time whereas in reality the aeroplane is in motion. I was not looking for anything too fancy here....I was seeking to lead Wranga out. Literally educate him how to assess what he sees using everyday physics.

The flex on the wings is remarkable and is I would GUESS due to new materials.

Is it a mass saving exercise? YES! Is it more efficient? see last answer!
