just saw a newsflash on TV of what looks like A C172 running off the end of 29L at YSBK.
anyone got more details?

How can a C172 run out of RWY on 29L ??? Must've been a dreadful overshoot, or float or both! Nothing heard though..

I was sitting in the back of a 172, while a fellow student was doing a nav to Goulburn.
To say he stuffed the approach is a serious understatement! turn base at 1200 Ft agl, over the piano keys at 1000ft! agl, i was thinking he was overflying the strip a second time! no, we were landing! we touched down with about 400 Mtrs of usable runway left! all our instructor did was stare at him in disbelief! and all he said after we stoppped was --- Why? and the student just laughed.

i am not the only person to openly admit i will never get in a plane again with him!

Hi gang. For info, it was a solo student returning to the field with a rough running engine. Landed contrary to the traffic direction with a few knots of downwind. He did well to be able to walk away.

Well, the last two posts provide an interesting contradiction. What's going on at BK these days? ;)

if this correct and not sure of your level of flying experince but how come from your quote
" all the intructor did was stare in disbelief!",and your own" I will never get in the plane with him again!" the student or instructor?

a few questions:
what was the instructor doing during this time, seeing as he is teaching the student to fly, as well as being the Pilot in command, or why not teaching him to intiate a go round when the approach is out of tolerance or not looking and feeling right?

A rough running engine should have been treated as a PFL....anything else should have been a go round in my book. :)

Don't know about the PFL.....A couple of students of a friend of mine did a dirty dive from CTA into YSRI claiming (to him later) rough running. They did not contact anyone before landing (imagine what went on in the tower when they caught sight of a rogue Cherokee dodging herky birds hehe).

It turned out they did not lean the mixture when they got to altitude. My mate was bailed up for about an hour and a half trying to get them out of there. :D :D

Chances are, if this guy has come round to the eastern side of BK (presumably from the training area) to land with downwind on 29 :confused: he would have muffed the PFL even worse.

Surely no instructor would just sit there and stare.....wonder if he has a job anymore?
