SYD/MEL-DPS-CGK using A300 leased from SQ.

B772 16th Aug 2002 06:44

Given the choice I would not fly on an Indonesian carrier if QF had seats available, regardless of cost.

Should Australian Airlines replace QF to Bali it could be more difficult for another Indonesian airline to compete with the incumbents.

Merpati had this gig 2 years ago using A310. Their planes were full on almost every flight but still manage to go broke!

I told them they should have started to charge their pax! :D :D :D

Not that it matters, but I heard it was going to be two A310's leased from Airbus direct and ex-AN infrastructure/people at DPS to be used. Sept start-up was looking ambitious.

nickmelb 17th Aug 2002 09:49

yes i heard that they will start sellin to the general public from 14 sep....with flights starting november ish...

interesting.........

Who is starting it, where are they flying to.

Who do you call for a Job etc.

Any takers ?

skystar1 17th Aug 2002 13:53

Could be a GOER

I was in a travel agency recently and the consultant informed me of a new airline starting up to do MEL DPS. He said he could not reveal any more info. He was very hesitant to tell me details. I got the impression he knew alot more but he refused to answer numerous questions. Again it looks like something is in the wind.

There was a thread on this airline on the YSSY board a while back. I attach some of the relevant info:

Check out http://www.airparadise.co.id for more info. As you will see, by mid next year they hope to start Bali-Sydney and Bali-Taipei flights as well.

Air Paradise International claims it is only weeks away from making Australia-Bali air services available to the agency network.
State sales manager for WA Christine Ross said the airline had been in the planning stages for the past nine months and was now negotiating aircraft leasing arrangements.

Speaking late last month, she said timing hinged on obtaining Government approval which could be just days away.

“It’s going through the licensing process at the moment,” she said.

“Gary Hilt (Air Paradise national business manager) went up to Jakarta with the board of mangers … to present our submission for approval to the Director General of Aviation, who oversees Indonesian aviation licensing and Airline Operator Certificates.”

“We’re expecting approval within days and will then move forward on attaining an AOC.”

“Everything is at the proposal stage – the airlines, the selling date and the launch date. At this stage we’re working towards July for sales and September for take-off.”

Owned by Balinese hotelier Wiranatha, the airline proposes to fly four times weekly from Perth to Denpasar, then onward to Jakarta, with a two class service.

Twice weekly flights should start ex Melbourne “two or three weeks” after the Perth start-up.

National business manager Gary Hilt is working with General Manager Barry Hess to build the airline’s structure and gauge the interest of wholesalers and retailers.

Ms Ross expected about 80% of Air Paradise International sales to come from wholesalers via agents.

“The retail travel market is really excited,” she claimed, “competitive” pricing should be finalised this month.

Suffice to say this was posted a couple of months ago, so obviously there have been some delays.

Hmmmmmmm

Smacks of a disaster in the making. There has been precious little in the trade press, and no indication of the impending operation that I am aware of.

A bit like "it's Merparti and we will fly if we want to".

Any serious operator knows there is at least a 3 month lead time to a new or expanded service to allow for sales to build.

Unfortunately this sounds typically Indonesian - half planned - half though through and less than half viable.

As travelinsurance no longer covers carrier collapse, I can't see the travel community getting warm and fuzzy about Air Parasite.

Best all

It appears to be all systems go. 11OCT startup at this stage.

Res/ticketing staff have been employed in Perth, and they have just appointed a Sales Manager for Victoria.

2 x A310s is correct, and one would presume they will be from SQ.

The airline is being financed by Kadek Wiranatha, owner of the Bounty hotel in Bali. He also owns a few other hotels, bars and restaurants.

The guy in Indonesia is a chap called Barry Hess... ex TN perhaps.

MARARA 18th Aug 2002 14:27

Hmm email doesnt work

skystar1 18th Aug 2002 22:19

Barry Hess is ex-AN

He was the Airport Manager for AN in DPS

Kadek is well known in Bali tourism and knows of the value Ozzies are to his little empire.

If they're serious they will need alot more than a handful of little indos scurrying around trying to run an airline.

Good luck to them. I only hope they get it right.

B772 18th Aug 2002 23:49

Hope the A310 is not the one that did aerobatics over the Bay of Bengal.
