QF Start Date

Has anyone out there been given a start date with the big Q recently, or does anyone have any info on upcoming courses to be run??? Any info would be great!!!

The Messiah 25th Jul 2002 06:15

Was offered August 29th if that helps.

Flying Tiger 25th Jul 2002 07:19

Next course starts Aug 1.

At least some (maybe all) will be on the 767.

Amigo 25th Jul 2002 08:47

Thanks for the info and well done!! Just wondering how long you spent on the hold file and if you had any recent contact with QF before they called you??

Java 25th Jul 2002 21:19

Are there any of you guys/girls that just got a start date with QF who are prepared to let us know your age. Just wondering if there is many of you over 30 years of age. As you can guess I am over 30 and just wondering if any folk my age are getting in or not.

FEW VB 1700 26th Jul 2002 00:55

So Messiah

Did you accept or are you happy in HK?

Truckmasters 26th Jul 2002 01:57

Further to Java's age query, are they still mainly sourcing cadets and ex AN or have they headed back to the traditional mix of GA/ Regional and military.

The Messiah 26th Jul 2002 03:52

No I didn't take it.

Going Boeing 26th Jul 2002 05:52

Truckie

The latest that I have heard is that they are assessing everyone on their merit and the last few courses have been a mix of Ex-AN, GA, Military, & cadets. :D

LIP-EZE 26th Jul 2002 13:59

I started rescently and the courses before me were cadets, I was told when a cadet course graduates they get preference over direct entry. My course had 8 Ansett, 1 Impulse and 1 G.A.

Of the Ansett guys, 2 were ex Ansett Cadets. The Aug 1 course is 767 I am told. It is very compedative with all the Ansett guys out there. I was told by someone in recruiting that of the 850 Ansett pilots, 650 applied to Qantas, and they still hire from G.A.

B.T.W the youngest on course is 24 from G.A. the oldest is 41 from Ansett.

Transition Layer 26th Jul 2002 16:57

Far out LIP-EZE...

You must have been having a bloody good day when you somehow managed your way through the English section of the Qantas testing.

Sure, you don't need to be able to spell to be a pilot, but f*ck me, your efforts are pathetic.

TL

The Messiah 26th Jul 2002 22:55

'We only take the best'............mmm

TIMMEEEE 27th Jul 2002 03:56

Just how many ex AN guys have QF hired on a full-time basis so far??

Sopwith Pup 27th Jul 2002 04:21

No official numbers Tim......but rumour has it at between fifty and sixty on full time so far, with more to come. Nearly all are on the 744. There are about thirty on contract.

203 27th Jul 2002 08:39

sore loser

T/Layer obviously got a knock-back. No maths, physics? Or bad attitude?

There's more respect for bad spelling than bad manners.

FFRATS 27th Jul 2002 09:08

From the training dept. mouth a B743-2 course next month with more to come.
:D

FFRATS

LIP-EZE 27th Jul 2002 14:15

With regard to the response to my last post, I am sorry that I upset Transition Layer with my poor spelling. I don't normally post but I remember how I wished people would post more about QF and there interviews and hiring intakes when I was going through the application stages.

The only comment I will make is that all the people I have come across at QF are very nice and helpfull in every respect. People who wish to abuse others and take pleasure in pointing out their defects are not welcome as far as I can tell.

Anyone who wishes to know any more about QF application process is welcome to e-mail me and I will answer the best I can or at least find out from others in the company. Recruiting are pretty open about all the application information and hiring details.

B.T.W. I also heard that some of the next course will be classic drivers.

Amigo 28th Jul 2002 00:23

Well said LIP-EZE. I started this topic to try and get some useful info and you and several others have certainly provided this. Once again thanks!!!

FEW VB 1700 28th Jul 2002 00:34

FFRATS

Does your training dept. contact think that the classic course dates include Aug 29th?

FFRATS 28th Jul 2002 04:19

RE classic course: no exact dates though middle of AUG was mentioned with 4 starting GND course.
Don't be worried if you go on the old girl as she can teach you a few tricks before she goes to the desert. The experience will help with FO training and beyond. Well thats what the Captains say anyhow.

Transition Layer 28th Jul 2002 04:32

G'day LIP-EZE...sorry if I was a bit harsh but I had more than a few beers under my belt when I read your post and jumped at the oppurtunity to give someone a bit of s**t. Just looking for a laugh and wasn't expecting you to take it so seriously mate.

And in case you're wondering 203, no I haven't been knocked back - haven't even had had a shot at it yet.

Don't worry, IF (and that's a big IF) I ever do get in, I promise to have spelling bee competitions with LIP-EZE to waste away all those hours on the flightdeck.

:D

Cheers,
TL

Eastwest Loco 28th Jul 2002 05:05

Transition Layer - Go stand in the corner!!

LIP_EZE - See me after class!!

:D :D :D

Nice to see an apology rather than an escalation.

Best all

T/Layer:
Well, good. I hope you get a shot at it if that's what you want. Meanwhile enjoy your time in GA, the pleasures of the job seem to be in indirect proportion to the size of the aircraft and the salary.

Now lets all have a group hug...

Zone 5 29th Jul 2002 00:49

So if you've been through the whole process, it seemed to go OK, but then it was quiet for >2 months, even after a gentle inquiry, what would you think?

RPPT 29th Jul 2002 01:42

2 months? Reeeelax. When it gets to 12 months, it's time to worry.......

LIP-EZE 29th Jul 2002 15:00

All I can say about Qantas Pilot Recruitment is that I am Mr very Average pilot and if I can get through anyone can. Work your arse off for all the stages and live Qantas for the months leading up to the big day, and you should be okay.

I don't care what anyone says, you can prepare for the first stage (psyche and skills). Of course you can also prepare for the rest of it, sim and interview. There is a lot of good information on the web about Qantas testing so read up start learning about Qantas NOW, not when you get the call for the interview.

Java 29th Jul 2002 15:33

LIP-EZE,

Just wondering how many hours you had when you got into QF.

Cheers

Java

*Lancer* 30th Jul 2002 04:15

Is this Classic course an actual pilot intake, or just the program for the FOs that are moving up/over there?

Lancer

FFRATS 30th Jul 2002 13:47

*Lancer*,

yes it is an actual course, ('PUIT') with more to come.
This is due to a combination of the classic 300's staying for a few more years and the SO ranks thining with promotion.
There are some FO's and Captains converting now also.

Regards

Keg 30th Jul 2002 14:42

Yeah, some of the good ones from the 767 too! :(

FFRATS, we didn't do a trip to Hobart together did we?

Zone 5 30th Jul 2002 23:52

"Ahh, yes, patience, gwass-hopper, patience..."

Thanks guys.

FFRATS 31st Jul 2002 00:50

Keg,

no trip to Hobart, maybe a trip to the Coogee Bay Hotel. :D

Waiting

Don't know if this will help, but for those interested I completed my sim/interview/medical last week and am now waiting for the dreaded letter.

In answer to my query as to how long I could expect to stay on the hold file (if of course I was successful) I was told by the interviewer that first of all the hold file didn't exist. (Seems at odds to what the girls in the office say, but that's neither here nor there). He also said that no matter how well an I went that week I could not possibly start for at least another 2-3 months as the positions on all of those courses have been filled. Q are, however, putting on 10/month for the forseeable future.

The sim ride went well. The interview I honestly have no idea as it was unlike any other interview I have ever been involved in. My understanding is that my impression is normal and that noone can really tell how the interview went as its all psychobabble based. Aside from a complete lack of any fingernails (thanks to months of study/worry/anticipation etc) I think I should get through the medical.

For info on my background, ex military, KD CRJ. 36 YO and roughly 4200 hours.

Good luck to all who find themselves at various stages of the process, including those still waiting for an opportunity to prove themselves.

Thanks to Keg and others for your assistance in answering some of my Q's a couple of months back.

FEW VB 1700 31st Jul 2002 01:56

IsDon

Someone should word up the interviewers because I was told in the interview there was no hold file also. This is a direct contradiction to what the Manager of Pilot Recruitment is writing in her letters.

It is frustrating when they don't tell you the truth in the interview because waiting is the worst part of the whole process.

Hi Guyz,

Sorry for digging this tread from the closest, but would really like to revisit the question.
