Cathay Recruitment

I have heard that Cathay has finished all recruiting for a period
up till the end of 2003.
I hope this is false can anyone help deny this or prove it.

Total Rubbish I would say..

Cathay has been having trouble filling the current vacancies, due to the Recruitment Ban.

As a matter of fact, Cathay has interviews scheduled for Sydney in October and Auckland in December.

Jimmy Pop 6th Jul 2002 12:08

Cathay are starting 4 direct entry recruits per week til at least Oct.

If you are looking for a job, who the hell cares what the unions say?

whistlingdixy 6th Jul 2002 16:27

rubbish

courses are full until jan 03..... still interviewing and recruiting to fill the 180 vacancies for next year.
despite rumours ..... there is no problem getting people to sign on the line! the only question is, (ban or no ban) are they the people we want?
syd/akl interviews soon.

good luck to all at air nz.... advice: got 1000hrs jet - go to emirates!

How do they select candidates for an initial interview? I am told they have some thousands of qualified applications(!). Do you have to 'know' someone or do they look at TT, twin, turbine etc. etc. Any info appreaciated as it helps to be realistic in deciding what to aim for in these slow times.

B787 7th Jul 2002 05:50

Firstly, you have to have all ATPL subjects from an ICAO state.

Cathay use a points based system for applicants. Points are gained by having, a Multi Rating, Turbine Rating, Jet Rating, Hours, etc.

eg. One person may get an interview with 1300 hrs TT and multi piston time, where as the next person may have 4000 hrs TT with Turbine command time.

Cathay have always liked to interview a broad cross-section of applicants.

So, your priority has to be, get those ATPL subjects. Then write and ask for a apllication form. Follow this up with a phone call. Update and ring regularly.

It is an advantage to have an ATPL licence when you come to Hong Kong. This could save you doing more exams later on. But it is not essential.

Good luck.

You need a hell of a lot more than 1000 hrs to get into Emirates these days!

:( :( :(

Windy

For those of us that haven't, as yet, built up the stamina to read through the five page essays in 'Fragrant Harbour' - what, in short, is the reason for this Recruitment ban?

Are most people ignoring the ban?

The Messiah 9th Jul 2002 01:13

The reason Fragrant Harbour has those five page essays is because it cannot be explained 'in short'.:(

The Riddler 9th Jul 2002 06:54

Windy,

All I have for Emirates is: www.emiratesgroupcareers.com

The information regarding experience levels for Emirates came from a very good friend. He was lucky enough to personally discussed his application with the Chief Pilot. Seems they are currently looking in the order of minimum 7000 hrs total with a large amount on jet, especially command.

In today's world it seems they can take their pick.

Goodluck.

Eyesight restrictions for Cathay

Is it true that Cathay's eyesight requirements - i.e. the level of shortsightedness that they accept - is more stringent than most other airlines?

oates 9th Jul 2002 08:22

BTW, has someone got the mailing address for Cathay recruitment. The only one I can find is for the cadet programme. It might be the same, but I wanted to make certain.

thanks

..... Tony Penny has moved on so dont pester him anymore please.

**With regard to Emirates I dont know their current standards but their literature clearly states 1000hrs ME jet. No doubt they can punch well above that at the moment. (You might find it amusing to note that they will not recruit from Cathay. No-one seems sure if it is a management agreement or because they think we are a pain in the ar$e.........amusing though)
