AN Admin booted off HYX test flight

Just for info,

The PIC on HYX's test flight today booted off one of pax when he found out he worked for the Administrators. Didn't get the PIC's name but B.S was in the R/H seat.

SO WHAT!

rmm 15th May 2002 08:59

Well most guys around here have been so critical of them (and I tend to agree with the reasons presented) I just thought it might be of interest in one way or another.

Here's some more useless info' ; I remember instructing in HYX when the Rego' belonged to a C 152 at Coldstream, Vic.

gaunty 15th May 2002 10:57

Well, test flight usually = essential operating crew only.

MT Edelstone56 15th May 2002 12:40

RMM,

Good to see the boys keeping themselves current.

Gaunty,

Essential personnel?

Reminds me of when, about four years ago,AN A320 pilots were rostered for test flights. We didn`t have a clue what for, weren`t told a thing by AN management and again, typically, didn`t have a clue what to do on a test flight. One Captain rolled up and took his family on a test flight, all the way to Nhill and back. Not at economic flight levels either.

One hour later he returned to Melbourne, met by incensed engineers who told him "everyone else has been doing an extended circuit".

As it transpired, the test flights were because an engineer had been sabotaging A320s to increase his overtime.

Another great moment in Ansett management.

Have to agree with Gaunty. There shouldn't be any joyriders on a test flight.

Speaking of AN stuff ups, does anyone know if the FE's with "jobs for life" are being paid by the administrators? ;)

Feret 17th May 2002 10:13

Buster,

You were left out of the loop. All the AN FEO's left before the collapse, so they were paid the redundancy etc. Job for life???

Cheers.

A sad day in aviation

If anyone is interested the next flight of HYX will be the last in our airspace. Its heading home to France.

:( :( :(

The Flying Lad 17th May 2002 11:49

What happens to the seats, etc from the aircraft? Ie, where do the "collectables go" :)

It's pretty sad going to the AN auctions seeing the offices, etc, all being gutted to the signboards.

Buster Hyman 17th May 2002 12:33

Are you sure feret? I'm sure there were a few left in September.

luna landing 17th May 2002 12:36

Heading off to France

So, any idea who's doing the ferry flight?

Feret 18th May 2002 11:47

Buster,

Positive! BTW, I was one who had no real option except to leave so have some first hand knowledge of events. I can sympathize with those affected by more recent happenings. At least I had some forewarning but it was still not a pleasant experience! No doubt you will agree. Good luck!

Cheers.

HotDog 18th May 2002 14:22

Don't mean to denigrate your skills, but must have ben pretty boring to operate as a flight engineer on a 767?

Feret 19th May 2002 14:17

HotDog,

Any job is what you make of it, especially on the overnights. ;) Also the pay scale was higher, a further incentive to find job satisfaction.

Cheers.

Goodbye

HYX airborne YMML at 0559z bound for Jakarta. US ferry crew, but not from OZ.

I thought the lesson would have been learned many years ago with VH-TVA - V700 as I am sure you would all know - never entered service and crew and family members aboard an attempt at a 3 engine takeoff were killed at Mangalore before she even saw service.

A test or training flight is just that.

Best ones I have heard of were the "post D check" flights in DC9s where DoA or whatever they were then required a full stall.

This was dropped when TJL experienced a severe loss of altitude due to reduced airflow over the horizontal stabilizers and the very experienced crew only just got her back in shape. Cracked the airframe within the tail though so back to the hangar for a few weeks.

Best all

If we start an institute for really silly aviation regulatory decisions, whould we be allowed to call it the Smithsonian??
