Atleast its different. I don't dislike it but I wouldn't rave over it either - just different.

edster 14th Feb 2002 08:29

I leave the thing at qantas for a grease and oil change and this sh*t happens!

Zeke 14th Feb 2002 08:30

Turn left,

Confirming buggas comments, defentaly a World Airways MD-11 on the other side (to the left of the 738 was a DC-10). World Airways have 8 MD-11s, N271WA-N278WA, their fleet is at http://www.worldair.com/fleet.html

VXC is hot on the heels of VXB, it landed at HNL today, VXB has departed for Oz

Eastwest Loco 14th Feb 2002 14:27

I must admit the new -800 is very reminiscent of a flying haeomorage - a bit like the 744 and 743 (Dole queue dreaming and King Billy Coke bottle dreaming or whatever).

The weight penalty of sucking up to 1% of the Australian population should surely be weighed up against common sense. The least productive 1% at that.

I believe the 744 is 4000kg heavier than it's sister ships after the repaint and cannot be economically used on the LAX run because of MTOW problems on the return leg.

Enough belly aching - ugly paint job - pretty aeroplane.

Achilles 15th Feb 2002 02:27

It's good to see QF can afford a 'paint job' but still wants to cut workers wages...

Wonderworld 15th Feb 2002 02:40

Wonderful artistic creation. Should be more of it imho. Shame others cant see past their racist noses.

shocka 15th Feb 2002 04:05

When are these so called marketing genii/guru's going to realise that the technicolour yawn paint job is history/old hat/finished/boring ????

eisle s 15th Feb 2002 04:21

will all the QF 800s be fitted with HUDs. I heard a rumour that they were going to deactivate them(dont know why but..)

Wonderworld

[quote]Wonderful artistic creation. Should be more of it imho. Shame others cant see past their racist noses.

Bit of an over-reactive generalisation in the above statement.

Yes some of the replies made here by some could be construed as racist, however most are not, simply a statement of personal opinion as to the aesthetics of this paint job. It does nothing to promote or enhance the image of what is a truly beautiful and culturally rich art form or race of people.

If QANTAS wanted to paint their planes to truly represent the makeup of the Australian population and their cultures, then perhaps they should paint each and every aircraft in their fleet in artwork representative of each of the many and diverse cultures that make up this truly unique and wonderful nation in which we live.

Playing devils advocate here it can also be said that the exploitation of any culture for commercial gain denegrates the true meaning of the culture and can be seen exactly as that - exploitation.

Gas Chamber 15th Feb 2002 05:52

Like the look of the new 800, but disagree with the paint job (should represent all Australians).

All 800's will be fitted with HUD on the captains side, they will be disconnected awaiting CASA approval and crew training (correct me if I'm wrong).

cath 15th Feb 2002 09:42

I didn't like it at first but its growing on me. At least its different. But its kind of a white persons attempt at aboriginal art, tho, by the look of it.

Eastwest Loco 15th Feb 2002 14:41

Paint me as a racisit if you like, but the tacky Coral Islander and Certral Australian liveries on TJL and TBH (I think) were more representative of all Australia than this peurile attempt at bringing aboriginal alleged art to the world.

Apparently the Japanese love it and King Billy Coke Bottle Dreaming is often on the OSA or TYO run.

I guess I do not posess one politicaly correct bone in my entire body - but there you go. When my wife and I are working our butts off making much less than a 767 Captains wage with our combined incomes (and I have no arguement for a second with what they earn as they deserve every cent) and cant get Austudy for our kids because we have the audacity to own a business, and a kid up the street who is one sixteenth aboriginal gets bloody Abstudy and everything including pocket money paid by the Government even though his parents make much more than us and have investments all over, I wonder - Oh how I wonder.

Why in hell do we bother.

There is a major fault on the 2 dollar coin you may not have seen. The gentleman depicted on it does not have his hand out.

EWL your disatisfaction with our social welfare system makes me wonder why you voted for the coalition. Again.

Eeek this thread has taken a bad turn. Padlock please.

gaunty 16th Feb 2002 08:15

The best and most realistic one I have seen was the SHAMU killer whale on the Southwest B737.

The B737 was the right fatness and shape and if you saw it out of the corner of your eye you'd have sworn you just saw SHAMU fly past.

I still reckon the QF B744 and the B738 look pretty good in their new livery. Politically or artistically correct or not they do say to non Aussies hey this is an Aussie aircraft here, come on down and find out what all the fuss is about.

Capt Vegemite 16th Feb 2002 10:34

Cant wait til that shower of ***** in the "tent' embassy cart it off and claim it as theirs.

effesso 16th Feb 2002 12:14

Don't mind the attempt at aboriginal art schemes but agree all Australians should have equal representation. Therefore I expect the next livery will feature a beach, lots of sand, sun and surf, deck chair with attached beer gutted yobbo with ubiquitous remote in one hand and VB in the other. Of course future models will have same livery except the VB will be replaced by a can of Tooheys, Swan Lager, Cascade or for our northern cousins who can't spell, it will have XXXX.

Wunala dreaming I liked because it was unique & it's colours pretty well matched the corporate colour scheme of QF. The blue one, I thought, was shyte as is this one. Even OJC is pretty ordinary IMHO.

One, perhaps two special schemes are ok by me, but any more & you end up with the BA disaster! I notice that they kept the engine cowlings standard this time, a lesson learnt on Wunala dreaming methinks.

I still think it's adisgrace that you spend all that money on the very latest 738, & all you get is hubcaps!
