Hello guys and girls,

Would love some info on how one is to find flying work in places such as PNG. Any suggestions or words of wisdom would be appreciated, as I am one of those `Shiny new' CPL holders that can't be bothered sitting in a 152 whilst someone else tries to crash it into the ground (instructing)and nothing seems to be happening charter wise around here......

You're unlikely to find anything here with a "shiny new" licence, A_s. There's a few jobs going at present for EMB110 captains - usual deal, need ATPL, heaps of IFR command time, turbine time, yada yada yada.

Sorry I can't be more positive about it for ya. I was one of those who risked life and limb in a C152 (and dissimilar) for several more years than I care to think about, before taking up a job offer here. That was in the good old days ... 17 years ago! :eek:

or should I say, A slut, the shiny new cpl is one of those things we go through, bit like the transition from yr 7 to yr 8, top of the tree to bottom of the barrel, but anyway i suggest you do some real research, many options available, b4 hand and check out your own backyard firdt dude, in the meantime good luck to ya!

Herc Jerk I did mean `cant be bothered'...sorry mate if I showed you any disrespect or spoilt your lunch, but I know that if I was a student, I would like to have as my instructor some body that had actual time carting our tax payer funded around the bush or sweating their butt off in the desert, before they started preaching their ways to me! I would like know that `this is what actually happens in a charter' whilst doing CPL training is an anecdote of their own rather than something they pulled from the crash comics. By `cant be bothered' I mean why should I pay $8000-$9000 on top of what I have already spent to go and teach someone paying good money about something I hardly know myself?

From past posts I have gathered that PNG offers challenging flying under extremes of weather, so anybody that can offer advice to a person willing to travel would be well appreciated in my books. And yes I have checked out my own back yard and dont like what I see!

I thought a sl#t would take anything. Have you considered taking a chance and going up North? Many of us have done in the past and have now moved on to greener pastures. Otherwise how about meat bombing?

I see your POV re: instructing but I still think "can't be bothered" is not the term you're looking for.

Fair enough guys, I will retract `cant be bothered' and instead replace it with `rather not', as suggested. Anyone with ideas can email me please?

Experience requirements:

-800hrs total beef patty frying time.
-100hrs on McDonalds A Class fryer, some time may be simulated, up to a max 50hrs.

-Oven cleaning rating.
-Night drive-thru rating.
-Chip pan endorsement.

Only candidates with above exp need apply.

Only the chief pilot gets to use the ice-cream machine. But endorsements are possible.
It's $10.hr dual and the endorsement does include some supervised solo time, but only if you meet the standards set out in Maccas 40.8 Appendix 3.

No ICUS time as yet, due to insurance requirements.

Don't forget Macca's is implementing an interview process consisting of Skill and Psych, Burger construction Simulator test and finally a panel interview with previous winners of the Golden Spatula.

do they maccas there too? and would they take ICUS time?

Maccas in PNG is very hard to get without the relivent frying experience.

Plus you'll need to convert from the Oz Maccas ****** and Spatula licence to the
PNG Golden Spatula International Licence Plus the Big Mac construction rating.

How about someone with heaps of combat and international military burger making experience. Never actually made a maccas burger, but in the military we do intensive, high speed, low level no bullsh*t fast food qualifications that you could only dream of. Any advice on the change over? Am even willing to work drive through for a while...

Will my H.J.'s senior whopper licence be able to be converted to a Maccas class 1 quarter pounder licence? I also have a frozen McFlurry rating.

But seriously, why PNG? They have plenty of dirty tropical weather and big, non plane friendly mountains. Better off surviving to 1000hrs here at home.

That's what the insurance companies reckon too. This is why it's so difficult to get a start here with a brand new licence. The other problem is that there are already a number of cadet schemes for Papua New Guineans and the survivors of those are the only ones who get a start with a brand new licence.

And, even then, they're closely supervised.

All in all, it ain't the place it used to be but, then, the place it used to be wasn't either! :D

What you've just run into is your first experience with the psyche of your average (below-average in my case) PNG pilot, be they current or ex.

We're all stark-raving bloody mad because the daily grind of throwing ourselves at hills and missing had to take some sort of toll. For some it was settling happily down with a nice girl from Chimbu and making planti piccininny, for others it was being medevacced to Cairns for a liver pump after downing 350 SP's before work (it makes life look better, so I'm told). For the rest of us, it was becoming sarcastic smart-arses with a zest for the idiotic - RE references to McDonalds.

Don't be put off. You too could be like us one day! But the simple fact of the matter is that most PNG companies want either time in country (usually 150 hrs) or, failing that, plenty of time elsewhere (usually 1000 hours). Additionally, the PNG Immigration Department will not issue work visas to those under 25. Meet any one of these criteria and a fun-filled life of action-packed enjoyment and taking no responsibility for your actions (ah - how I miss it) could be waiting for YOU.

Seriously, though, I really don't see how you can do it at the moment without doing a little bit of instructing/ parachute dropping/ meat bombing first.
