Appeared to be in the scrub amongst trees, I think very luck to walk away from.

I guess their trip has ended!

ABC news at 7.45 this morning said the two engined aircraft (is that the same as a twin-engined aircraft?)clipped trees on the way in and had run out of fuel. Pax minor injuries. Pilot more serious injuries but ok and transported to Cairns Base Hosp.

I was flying over-head the cessna in a navajo during the incident. We we're put on a hold once the a/c declared a fuel emergency and asked to assist. Once he'd lost power he was vectored by atc to the ag strip only about 10 nm south of Cairns. He saw the strip once he was almost overhead and made a RH circuit. Unfortunately they fell short of the strip and initially landed in the cane and then stopped in the line of trees running across the end of the strip. The cane must have slowed them down a heck of a lot as the furrow was probably less than 100m long. None of us were optimistic about chances of survival looking at the wreckage. We helped the Heli rescue crew locate the site and then went back to Cairns. Haven't found out anything more.

Was it an american pilot? A November callsign aircraft? That aeroplane landed in front of me yesterday. If it was him he must have got airborne again and flown south. Strange. Hope everyone is OK.

Many European based (private) aircraft are 'N' reg.. .. .Also, that may explain the Delaware based trustee. 'N' reg usually requires a US based corporation and a lot of trustee corps are set up in the state of Delaware due to low fees.

High Altitude 11th Mar 2002 02:29

The N registered plane that landed in front of you would have been the funky new C208B thats parked in the GA. . .. .I should know I was in it.. .. .Heard the other N registered plane but musta happened after we landed.. .. .On the 2002 C208B - WOW! (anyone gunna loan me 1.67USM?).
