Navair/Aerospace merger no longer...

Well it was a very rocky road but finally the supposed merger/takeover has ended and Navair is now a part of Combined Aviation Services (CAS). :)

A very good move and the boys there are quite happy with the decision to be under CAS's rule.

Justice has been done! :D and those involved know what I mean!! :D ;)

Heard unconfirmed rumours today that CAS will manage Navair for 3 months and if they don't like what they see, can pull out after that period. From the CAS perspective, the big motivation really would have to be the acquisition of Navair's hangar space and hard stand parking.

Most of the Navair instructors are employed on a casual basis, and the aircraft as far as I know aren't owned by Navair, and aren't of the same standard as those on the line at CAS.

The other point is that quite a few Instructors over at CAS are ex Navair anyway and of course there is the hangar space and large hard stand parking there to be utilised.

All of the Navair Instructors ARE currently casuals bar one Grade 3.There were no Grade 2's or 1's there in the last month or two of the Aerospace merger.

The Navair fleet does require some extensive cosmetic work to return to its former glory.Sadly, some of the fleet were used for spares for other aircraft while under Aerospace rule. :(

I think the boys and girls can look forward to happier days now after the s***fight they have been through. :p

On_Slope and GearOff,

Correct on both counts. The unhappy marriage between Navair and Aerospace has come to an end, with Navair and CAS signing an initial 3-month agreement.

It will be interesting to see what eventuates within the coming weeks (even months) and what will happen to some of the unfortunate students who have been used as pawns at some stage in the whole saga.

Don't forget that all three parties also maintain bases in Coffs Harbour at that too looks to provide some interesting entertainment!

Actually, before Aerospace took over, there were nine fulltime pilots on staff, and Navair owned fifteen aeroplanes outright, in addition to another eleven on line.

Although some pilots left due to the industry boom, it was made clear that fulltime pilots would not be staying for long, as casuals were apparently cheaper.

No wonder the remaining staff are happy for a CAS takeover.

One of the senior ex-Navair instructors that was able to jump across to CAS a few months ago is now heading up ops at Navair presumably while it's decided how to integrate the two. Anyone know if the Navair name will cease to exist?

This talk of NAVAIR brings back many fond and exciting memories. It is with this company and the people who were a part of it that I cut my teeth in Aviation. It would be sad to see the end of the name, but I feel that after the peak of '89/90 it has never been the same.

I am now ignorant of todays politics, but if the instructor of old that is coming back to help is BH, that's definately a good sign.

Good luck to all.

GearOff 8th Sep 2001 17:07

Instructor is SW from what I hear. There could be more than one involved. Things certainly seem to be moving quickly over there with smiles all around.

BH may be taking the CFI slot but remaining in his current position at CAS allowing others to manage day to day operations. I think at this stage it's still up in the air how they will integrate the two. All my info is passed down through the frequently unreliable grapevine of GA so take it at face value.

Edited for disclaimer.

Yes good old Mr SW will be coming back over to help run the shop.Should be well suited to the task as he was acting CFI on many occaisons.

Will be an honour to work under BH's guidance yet again too. :)

Time shall tell people but it certainly is a BETTER step taken in the right direction than the previous

Many of them have their fingers crossed so lets hope it all works out.

Apparently it is rumoured that CW of previous alliance was spotted by one of his own to be stealing a Navair AC from the parking lot late one night. No cops involved. Nasty

The Police were involved but no charges were laid against them.Very lucky they wern't because they would have been in the s#$%house then.

So much for a so called "Professional" Institution!
