Ansett International?

There is lots of discussion about AN's internal flights but what became of its international section? How many B747's did they have and where are they now? Is this for sale as a seperate item?

It sure makes staff travel from HKG to SYD more difficult, not having the AN flights

The two 747's VH-ANA & ANB have gone back to SQ and the 767-300 VH-BZF has returned to its owner in Ireland.

As long as the sale goes through, you'll see some big things in the next 6 months wrt AN INTL!!

Could this be what Sir Dickie and the AN boys are having chats about? . .The A340 would be a good long haul option now!!!!

Who can ever forget the sight of the big white AN 747 sitting on its nose at KSA. That, and the whole 747 introduction must have cost squillions. Going international is an expensive diversion from the real tasks ahead for TESNA. Best leave the blue water to the big boys for a little while yet.. .Cheers. .Sherm

Wasn't it BKK? Oh wait, wrong white 747, sorry!! :)

You're a bitch, Buster!!

Sherm,

I have to agree that TESNA would be wise to limit their initial operations to the higher yield domestic routes for a few years so that they can re-establish their market position and build up the confidence of possible passengers before committing the large sums of money necessary to develop new international routes. Normally, international routes take much longer to become profitable than domestic routes.

Good luck to all the AN staff (especially those who did not gain employment with the TESNA operation). GB

Ansett International has not flown since 12/09/01 so the value of that business now would be ZILCH.. .As a three plane operation it was pretty small anyway, and in hindsight something else that distracted the former AN managements from managing their core domestic business properly.. .No one in their right mind would launch a new Australian based Overseas airline in the current climate when QF have such a stranglehold on what O/S market there is through their main Qantas brand and from later this year a re-launched. .Australian brand.

If FLEW/DJ is a reality the only int'l routes that would be a prospect in the short term would be routes to NZ. As I understand the current agreement between New Zealand and Australia, a company with the share profile of Tesna would not need to go over the regulatory hurdles that have prevented DJ from commencing trans Tasman operations already.

kuldalai - you are offering sound advice.

You have to crawl before you walk.

Buster Hyman 12th Feb 2002 05:23

There's discussion of deserted "brand" loyalty on another thread for the domestic market. How on earth do they think they'll get bookings from foreign markets with that in mind? I guess we'll see.

Methinks much uninformed speculation is rife regarding AN INTL prospects. Why the TESNA absolute determinism to cling onto AN's INTL slots? I smell the wafting of asian in-flight service. Or was that British kippers broiled in Virgin olive oil?

rescue 1 12th Feb 2002 15:21

Virgin Atlantic previously code shared with AN on the HKG - SYD route.

He could quite conceivably start operating it tomorrow in his own right - without Tesna.
