Last Australian RPT flight for the F28

G'day,

Thought some of you old F28 boys may be interested in this news taken from www.flightwest.com.au

*********************************************. .For those with a sense of Aviation history the TSV-BNE flight on 30th March 2002 will be the final F28 service operated in Australia (and the last Australian commercial service of a Stage II aircraft).

The flight will be Captained by Roger Barnes who also has the distinction of captaining the last F27 RPT service in Australia.

(We have already booked Roger for the last F100 service in 2020)

The proud history of F28's dates back to August 1969 when MMA in WA leased VH-MMJ short term from Fokker prior to the introduction of their first F28 FKA in 1970. ( FKA was scrapped in BNE in 1996).

There is plenty of life left in the FWA F28's and we all trust they will find a good home.

Thank you for supporting Flight West

. .Regards. .Cabinboy

Sad indeed - the pocket rocket was and will always be a fine aeroplane. I and many others mourn their passing from Australian skes.

Please tell me - was is it an Echo Whiskey registered aeroplane that is the last remaining??

If so it is one of "our girls".

How I miss them and the razors edge we then rode with them.

Beautiful noisy real aeroplanes built for talented and enthusiastic pilots.

Best all *sniff*

What services and types are Flight West currently operating?

Eastwest Loco 26th Jan 2002 09:38

Excellent Guru - EWB was the first F28-4000 into DPO and the first one in after (or during) the "89 pilots strike.

A reliable lady with few vices.

I kissed her on the radome on both the above occasions. Would somebody please do that for me after her last Aussie flight. She has served magnificently - and 2 Alpha is MY seat!!!!!

J.A.N. Live under a flight path - expect noise. What does one expect? Cows mooing and birds singing??? Just think yourself lucky that DC6's and Viscounts are not still in operation.

EWB was the best of a bunch of really nice aeroplanes. It had the straightest airframe and was just plain delightful to fly. The F28 was steam driven, an ergonmic nightmare(esp. wrt the autopilot and flight director system)and required a high level of operator knowlege to fly the type really well. A well flown sector where all the numbers worked out and spin up at 1000' with flap42 was most rewarding. :)

EWL,

2A is especially nice in the FW 70 seat config, with a couple of F/As restrained in harness and rubbing knees with you. I can understand why it's your favourite!

Cheers

Got yo J.A.N. The beast is pleasantly noisy at best. The DC9 with P and W JT8D-7s tops it by far for noise.

32 bits - many a wonderful night out has been organised from 2 Alpha. *G*
