Virgin Interview

Now before anyone says "do a search", I already have so. I could not locate much in the way of the interview process, just everything else.

I know how much they get paid, and what the pilots agreement is, but could people shed some light on some of the following questions.

1. How do you find out you have an interview? Via phone or letter?
2. Is it at HQ in Spring Hill?
3. Who conducts the interview normally?
4. What sort of prep. is required? Is it a technical interview like Cathay, or a lot of apptitude type stuff like Qantas?
5. Is it a laid back type affair, general type chat, or full on good cop, bad cop situation?
6. Do you find out if successful within 24hrs?
7. Are you getting paid when over doing a type rating oversea's?
8. Any other stuff that people should be aware of before going in that may be of help...please say.

Could people please give honest answers pertaining to the questions only, and refrain from sending the thread off track. Its not just helping me but lots of other folk that may be interested also.

Thanks! ;)

A good post with honest questions. I'd like to know too. Before anyone rags on me, I know the market is flooded with experienced and capable heavy drivers, but how does one even get an, "eat sh@t and die" response, to say they acknowledge your existance. I've heard of guys getting the interview with around 3-4000hrs, w/ multi IFR time, and some turb also. What sort of criteria of guys are getting the nod, and who aren't. Is there people that obtain interviews, and get rejected for reasons other than 2 heads etc. Whats the mould??? And how do you go about getting a response without going overboard with the "pick me..pick me" syndrome. Just curious, with 6000hrsTT, 1500Multi Turb Command/2 crew, ATPL. (Standard Quals these days)

Cheers -27 :D

Re: Paid whilst doing rating

My information from VB is that you might get an interview without an endorsement, BUT

...you must have the endorsement at the time of staring employment with the company.
They went on to tell me that you must then still pass all the company checks.

You pay for your endorsement and all expenses associated with it, I am led top believe.

Cheers

1)Phone
2)Yes
3)Generally two senior Captains
4)None, but obviously know about the company
5)Yes
6)Yes
7)No
8)Sell, but don't oversell yourself. They are looking for people who fit hte Virgin mould

Read Branson' book

Not much chance of an interview unless you are B737- ex Ansett at the moment, but it will change.

Company is expanding rapidly, and intends to be around for a long time.

Good Luck

Heard a rumour that QF weren't interviewing anyone over the age of 35.As I am an AN 737 FO and haven't heard anything from Virgin other than the electronic acknowledgement is there a similar policy? How many AN drivers have they taken? Finally is there any point in ringing them up to say I'm still here or does that just ensure you get put to the bottom of the pile?

Ron Jeremy 8th Nov 2001 10:25

Any idea how many interviews they are running and how many they are taking a month?

Ron Jeremy 8th Nov 2001 10:28

Perm FO,

Do a search and I think from memory you'll find some people who were taken into QF who were over 35.

Be yourself! No real tech questions and only looking at the person. The only way you will get an interview is through pilot cv plus if you know someone on the inside who can drop your name in the right circle it will really help. It got me the interview and the job. Great place to be and a very very solid future! Don't need the B737 endorsement prior to the interview, will be given all info after you get the job! Go for it. :D

FARQ . Is it true that a pilot will not get an interview if the pilot is on the 1989 list. Only a question... not meant to start a debate. I Was told Virgin wont interview 1989 pilots. (It does not effect me :) ;)

Does help to know Mr. cheif pilot indeed...or even his son.
A good friend of Mr. Cheif pilots son was taken into virgin blue straight after the ansett collapse even though he was a Bae 146 pilot...its who you know boys :o
Must make all those fully endorsed 737 guys out there feel good.
