Anyone seen the new Panadol Advert on TV?

Just caught a glimps of it 1/4 the way through, is it real?

(general gist is that RFDS pilots take panadol....)

:D :D :D

Thermal Bandit 24th Aug 2001 17:28

Yes - caught that one somewhere in the past 24 hours - good looking young blonde female flying RFDS BE20 taking Panadol to keep her going

If you are sick enough to be taking Panadol you are to sick to fly, and you should not be flying immediately after having taken Panadol - then again it is an advertisement.

Did you also notice that she was the base radio operator, and that pristine white shirt in the middle of the scrub.
Anyway the RFDS usually employs middle aged ugly (read experienced) guys as pilots last time I took any notice - have times changed ??

:D

williamsf1 24th Aug 2001 17:40

I was thinking these same things.....

Just wasn't game to say it, :D hmmmm...
anyone else caught it yet? and know the pilot / actor?

From The South Eastern Flyer
The RFDS (South Eastern Section) Newsletter
Number 2 - 2001

The Flying Doctors has formed a corporate partnership with the makers of Panadol. Through the partnership, the RFDS has received considerable financial support for replacement aircraft purchases.

A TV commercial for a new product, Panadol Extend, was filmed recently at and near Broken Hill.

Those new Panadol tablets, would they be the new Panadol ER (extended range) tabs. Or perhaps they have gone for a new "approach" in pain relief? Longer, pointed at one end, inser.........

I ain't going there!!!!

Hi All,

My understanding of the reg's states you can't be taking any medication and fly as well - if you take it to the letter of the law.

:D

25th Aug 2001 09:28

I'll probably never see the commercial, but I can imagine the dialouge..." owwwwwwwwwww these frequent migraines are bloddy killing me, I wish we could get rid of these old dangerous two engined airplanes and replace them with single engine ones so's I will have less to worry about"
I apologize to the RFDS folks out there.

gaunty 25th Aug 2001 09:38

Yeah you only beat me to this one coz I've busy.

Will applaud RFDS anytime.

Will applaud women pilot thingy anytime.

Use Panadol or similar before opening my bank statements or "discussion" with mrs gaunty about family budgets.

Can't get comfortable with the mixed message here.

Pilot (woman gets attention, dunno what back pain but suspect subtle wimmens business here, but whatever it is needs atention beyond a pill or removal from duty), RFDS (lends authority to the practise), drug taking (it is not an innocuous analgesic, doesn't matter which brand Herron or Home Brand, by any measure and if misused can be fatal), ALL in the context of a normal day in aviation.

Scuse me but I'm missing something here.

So what if they are sponsors, good on em, but it's the wrong message.

Dave Incognito 25th Aug 2001 09:42

B747400,

It is ok to take medication if cleared by a DAME. However, I don't know if this covers panadol...just a thought.

Blue Sky Baron 25th Aug 2001 09:58

Don't know about the RFDS employing female pilots, however I have a friend who flys ambo work out of Sydney in Kingairs and she is "Young and Beautifull".
BSB

gooseman 26th Aug 2001 14:50

just happened to be checking out some stuff on the casa website the other day and had a look at the dame's handbook in the pilot medicals section. In there it states that a person may be allowed, under certain conditions to take small amounts of codein every 6 hours provided it doesn't exceed 15 mg and still undertake flying duties. I don't know whether the fellow ppruners know it or not but codein is a hell of a lot stronger than the paracetemol uually found in such products as panadol. But as one person rightly pointed out if the pain is strong enough to be distracting or debilitating the person should most definately not be in command of an aircraft.

The thing that got me is that the lovely young lady on that particular commercial looked to be a little young to have the required hours to work for the RFDS, i am 27 and only have 700hrs. I would like to know how she did it :D :p

Desert Duck 26th Aug 2001 14:55

Embarrassing

GoGirl 26th Aug 2001 15:50

I'm not going to get invoved in the debate about the medical implications, but I just wanted to clear up a few things about the ad in question....
If you had seen the start of the commercial, you would see the young female pilot answering a radio call from a cattle station, where a bloke has taken a tumble on his motorbike.
The narrative given by the pilot, and accomanying footage, shows that after she has helped put the ...not small fella... in the back of her plane, she stretches to accentuate the phisical stress that this, combined with sitting in an A/C all day, can cause.

So for those of you out there who thought it was targetting female pilots who suffer period pain...hahahahaha! Any woman will tell you, panadols not the answer

They've used a woman because women predominately buy the pharmaceuitical (spelling?) products in the house. It's all in the name of marketting :D

I am sure I saw Gary Sweet and Jimbo in the background there somewhere ...

Beech Boy 27th Aug 2001 07:51

Come on Fellas/Girls

Panadol- all perfectly legal, yes even the product that they are marketing. Don't read too much into it, It's an AD!
I should imagne that there is a philosophical trade-off, selling yourself for a donation (what doo they call that again...HMM)if you want the moral high ground.
The RFDS needs money, and they need to be inventive and resourceful.
Yeah! a girl because they are the ones that buy most of these things, market research I believe. The RFDS involved- because the drug company is trying to "Australianize" themselves after the Heron case earlier this year.
Not all the RFDS very happy about it, but gee how about those "ABSOLUTELY" ads.

Keg 27th Aug 2001 09:28

She must be a pilot because her acting skills suck!! :D

'You're in good hands now mate!!"

IsDon 27th Aug 2001 09:38

On the subject of crappy ads, what about the one with the 2 dimwits trying to hotwire a car followed by "Wodonga Airport here we come!"

Suggest it might take them a while to find it.

Farn Carn Moit 27th Aug 2001 14:13

Sometimes I am really blown away by the arrogance and self absorbance of some, or should I say the majority it seems of pilots in this country haggling and picking over a stupid dam advert on TV and debating at length the flaws in its non compliance with aviation regulations, even if some of it is in jest.

Do you all bore to tears your family and friends with incessant ramblings about everything and anything to do with aviation?

Do you spring up from the armchair each time the panadol advert comes on, shaking and pointing at the screen shouting and babbling about how it is not real, like I know!

Really, time to get a life people, its embarrassing.

dingducky 27th Aug 2001 17:19

we used to have a panadol as here in nz years ago which featured a old male captain of a nice big jet, they never show it anymore. now they just have stupid girly livesaver ones :(

IsDon
is that the silly disprin that you don't need water for ad?

Dog One 29th Aug 2001 03:47

perhaps she needs Panadol after being told about the PC12's
