Holiday in Cairns
 

G'day People,

Ill be holidaying in Cairns over the new year and would like to hire an aircraft and check out some of the local area.

Does anyone know of any good islands or camping spots etc that are easily accessed by aircraft that are within say 150nm of Cairns ?

Any help greatly appriecated !

Try Cow Bay up near Cape Tribulation. A big grass strip (4500' I think) out in the rainforest. Dunk Island I think has camping facilities too but also good for a day trip. Enjoy your holiday.

Two good suggestions, also consider Lizard Island. 345deg/146nm CS.

Not cheap at a $165 landing fee, and the resort is $900 plus a night, but the national park campground is $3 a night!!!!!!!

You must get permits from the Parks office in town. The snorkelling there is insane. The best you are ever likely to do off a beach on the GBR.

have to second CS's call on Lizard Island.
