AirNorth drops pistons and Hardy Av AOC in danger!
 
Well AirNorth have given/are giving the 402s the flick and many ports dropped Elcho Is, Croker Is, Goulbourn Is, with Snake bay and Garden point to follow, as well as everything out of Katherine. Can't be worth the aggrivation any more! Also hear that Hardy are in deep ****e with CASA as they keep running their Metro off the runway at Darwin and elsewhere! Looks like Darwin is becoming a game of last man standing. As the years go by the number of GA operators seems to dwindle. Can't imagine any new AOCs being issued up this way.

Have seen MMY do more than one grass excursion at YPDN, and heard stories of similar events at a mine. A southern GA operator might be under a bit closer eye after a couple events of the last week too!

Hardy Av AOC in danger?!?!?!?!?!
When HASN'T Hardy's AOC been in danger of being lost, apart from the times when they HAVE no AOC and used other one
Metro - Inland Pacific
C404 - Anindilyawcwa (whateva)
C402 - NAC
C210/C206 - Air Frontier and Flight Standards
Not too sure about the B58 though, or if it had one.

Can one of you Bras or metro guys explain how you can and do fly 600 miles over water with no land in between.

May I wish the C402 pilots good luck and good hunting for new jobs and I hope that they have been spending their nights doing their ATPL instead of down at the Vic :D

I am feeling a bit misty myself as we are seeing the final curtain for a type that will now disappear even more rapidly from this industry than most would wish.

As one of the many who operated the first of these types C411/401 and PA31-310 from brand spanking new (I suspect some of them are still around too) and went on through all the later versions up to when they stopped building them. We brought the last new C310R into the country and BTW the last production C185.

That was getting on to over 34 years ago.

The end of this era has been coming for some time but its actual arrival is nonetheless surprising.

Not everyone in Darwin is in trouble. Look at honky who in the last year has purchased Wimray and 2 C-210s and a $600000 house in Fanny Bay. :confused:

Why then did i only get paid $29.95 in superannuation for a years work. :mad:

What was the Aussie dollar worth back 34 years ago when you were flying new aircraft out from the US? My guess is it was far stronger than the US dollar, probably fixed around $1.20?

I agree with your broad philosophy on the industry BUT unfortunately comparing the industry of today with that of 3 and a half decades ago is like comparing chalk and cheese. The Pacific Paso is worth nothing nowadays...and in regards to new machinery, you just cannot compete with the economics with operating older light twins.

I don't think it's the end of an era just yet...maybe it's the end of the low end GA and subsudised LCRPT market that never really should have existed in the first place. It's survival of the fittest.

Yup the exchange rate was if I recall at the high end of $1.20 now under 50c, but that hasn't slowed, in fact overall it's increased, the purchase of imported motor cars.??

It hasn't stopped the purchase of all manner of other imported goods either.

Nah, the industry has been using investors and finance industries money to subsidise their patrons flying for too long.

As far as economics are concerned vis a vis old light twins, does that mean oyu would be happy to be driven around in an 400,000 mile FJ Holden with a new Repco "Short" recon in it, new upholstery and paint.
I seem to recall that the windscreen heater was an addon toaster element and aircon was adjustng the flipper windows at the side and opening the funny little cowl flap thingy in front of the windscreen :D :D

People will pay, but if you've spent several decades training them not to, and then perpetuate the folly then you're right.

I don't supose you've been to Cuba lately?

gaunty…..The old analogy of the FJ Holden in comparison to the PA31, wears a bit thin after a while…..You can put a Colemil Conversion on the PA31, you know, Winglets, VG’s, 4 Blade Props, a class gleaming paint job, beautiful leather 8 seat interior, an MX20 MFD, and the punter walking out to the aircraft don’t know the difference…..You lead a punter out to an FJ Holden, & they pick up on it pretty quick :D (either that or they just arrived on one them boats over your way).

Besides, You can put a 1977 KA 200 next to a 2001 KA B200, & I know a lot of pilots that don’t know the difference (given they both sport a 2001 paint scheme).

Most punters don’t know they are being driven around in an FJ and if your aircraft is as described above, and the oppositions is comparable to the Cuban fleets you speak of, who’s going to get the business????

Don’t get me wrong…..To get back onto my favourite subject, I just got off the phone with a finance guy I know, and his words were to me Australian Banks don’t know how to count over five, and don’t know anything over 30% referring to a loan period and residual %…..You get them to get off their collective RRR’ses and look at financing aircraft in a fashion more compatible to the rest of the developed world, and maybe, just maybe, we will see the likes of what you expound….Then all we have to do is reorganise our regulatory authority to oversee and regulate the market as it should be……
