Woomera Bias

Well here goes I'll get sore knuckles or a suspension out of this post I guess.

Woomera, for what reason was the "Lawnmower" thread closed? Apart from your biased abhorrence of any mention of '89 I can see nothing in that thread except to point out to AN pilots that things for them are going to be tough, tougher than it was for 89ers and that they were played for patsies by FLEW.

Whether you or others like it or not 89 WILL NOT GO AWAY for the very reason that you are exhibiting as a Moderater who doesn't Moderate with an open mind but has an opinion himself!

Too many threads get locked in this forum for trival reasons at your whim, how about stepping back a little and becoming an even handed moderator.

Finally one reason 99% of us 89ers feel hard done by is the sickening outpouring of sympathy for the staff in this Ansett debacle, yet in '89 we had a right number done on us by the media and every other sick b.....rd, then had to turn around and rebuild our careers that had been destroyed without any sympathy whatsoever from anyone except good friends.

For all those pilots except the "unmentionables" who feel there cause is justified just remember that you profited at the exspense of others before you, therefore don't demand or expect sympathy for your plight from an 89er.

OK Woomera I've said my bit now I'll take the medicine!

Relax, sniffer, he most probably read my response to your post and slapped the padlock on as a result. Oh, and he removed my post first so no need for you to feel victimised.

FarQ2 1st Mar 2002 13:58

Yup, just about says it all sniffer, perhaps an 89 forum without a Moderator would be the go. :) :)

sniffer dog 1st Mar 2002 14:12

Yes an '89 forum without a Moderator would be something but Danny and the powers that be would be pissing in their pants worrying about the legal ramifications, but a bit of wit and mirth would sure brighten up the forum! <img src="cool.gif" border="0">

. ...................................................

. . I'd like to see that!!!!

Fox Fire 1st Mar 2002 16:00

PPRuNe Towers 2nd Mar 2002 01:11

Well put Triple T.

Sniffer might like to consider this reasoning for the thread being closed:

The basic premise came across as simply rubbing the noses of thousands of empoyees into the personal disaster they all face.

I would presume the writer would argue that such an intention was never involved and that it was aimed at a specific group/generation of Ansett pilots.

Nevertheless, it was our judgement here at the Towers that the thread crossed the lines of what many would see as common decency at such a terrible time for so many.

The 89er threads have shown just how deep the scars are for those involved. We have to considered how betrayed, hurt and bitter many feel many years on and we have given them a platform for 7 years now.

And so to today, where for thousands there are no scars yet - just the shock and pain as they take stock of what has befallen them.

There is a very significant difference between the Ansett events of 1989 and 2001/2002.

In 1989 the '89ers democratically elected to terminate their employment.

In September 2001 and again in February 2002, the Ansett staff lost their jobs due to circumstances totally and entirely beyond their control.

No parallel exists between the two occurrances.

I am sympathetic to the '89ers in that they felt they were forced to make the decision they did. I am very sympathetic to the present Ansett staff.

I have been posting to PPRuNe since the original Board in 1998 (or thereabouts). In that time I have not detected any Moderator bias either way, to 89ers, from a succession of Moderators, including Towers, the Chief Pilot, the Kelly Gang etc or more recently, Woomera. If anything, I suspect both Woomera and Towers have some sympathy, or at least tollerance, for '89ers.

Indeed, there have been times I feel they have been remarkably lenient when personal attacks have been made in '89 threads or unrelated threads have been hijacked by the '89 topic.

In 1988 I made a decision to terminate my then employment in a manner not dissimilar to the action taken by '89ers. That decision affected my career for a decade, cost me dearly and may have ultimately affected the careers of many of my friends. Like the '89ers, it was a personal decision I made and I don't need to harp on about it!

Many '89ers post to PPRuNe, some of whom I know or have identified. It seems only the vocal very small minority "push the point" beyond reasonable grounds.

My opinion, to which I am democratically entitled.

No! I dont believe that Woomera is bias, but like a lot of others who enjoy pprune, I would guess that many including Woomera have had more than enought of 89 and all that goes with it.

Please guys, don't spoil it for the others.

Torres 2nd Mar 2002 16:01

Agreed. '89 is gone. Ansett is gone. Nothing will change that.

Time to move on. There is a future.
