Flying for a living in your beautiful countries??
 

Hello all,

I'm hoping to spend a year in aus(hopefully starting next summer). My question is what are the prospects of finding work instructing or para dropping.
I have an irish/jaa ticket and would obviously convert. My time now is 240hrs hoping to top 300 before I leave.

hahaha... did you mention prospects and work in the same sentence? you have to be kidding me. Best to stay in own country at the moment and tough it out there, although I have heard that there are plenty of well paid hours nightfilling but you may need a rating for the trolleys they use, quite difficult if you lose a wheel I have heard.

There was a thread on para dropping a couple of weeks back. One of the biggest hurdles is the Aus. Parachute Federation requirement for drop pilots to have 10hrs on type. Here is a link to the other thread:

As for instructing, I'm not sure about the licensing etc., but the competition for instructing jobs around the larger cities is generally high. Some companies require you to BYO students, which could be a problem if you don’t know many people here.

Unfortunately, general aviation in Oz is in a bit of a slump and might take a while to recover.

Theres always a chance of anything happening.
The best advantage you can have above others is knowing your sh&t and most importantly not being an ar sehole which are unfortunatley in particular abundance in this industry (a few have even replied to your post already).

Well as others have said, work can be a bit thin on the ground at the moment. Check out the CASA site.
With regarding work, it depends on your visa.
Have a scratch around Dept of Foreign Affairs and you should find an answer. Eventually.
