Freedom Air (or QF?) Oz-Nz expansion

Anyone here intimate with goings-on at SJ???

I was just wondering whether SJ had any other expansion ports in Australia on their radar.

I think NTL and OOL are fantastic ideas - we will see now how they work out.

However I think there are other cities just as needy of NZ flights - CBR, ADL, possibly TSV and maybe also extra flights to CNS.

Does anyone know whether such ports are on SJ's radar??? Indeed do their 733s have the range to make ADL? ADL in particular is screaming out for NZ flights after NZ dropped their 767 service many years back now.

Does anyone think QF might (with added 737 capacity) consider such routes?

NSW welcomes Freedom Air flights to Newcastle

The New South Wales State Government says the new international air service into the Hunter Valley will be a huge boon for tourism in the area.

Freedom Air, a subsidiary of Air New Zealand, will offer direct routes from Auckland to Newcastle, twice a week.

Premier Bob Carr says there will be enormous economic spin-offs for the region.

"We calculate over 400 jobs generated by these 7,000 visitors alone," Mr Carr said.

"Now that's a very significant number to the significant employment base that already exists here now in tourism.

"I just think the economic diversification in the Hunter has been a striking development in the last decade."

A B733 would be struggling in the "Boeing Average winds" to make YPAD ex NZ and the ANZ/SJ Fuel policy, whereby an alternate is ALWAYS carried - this notwithstanding, SJ is a financially sound operation and fills the role for ANZ that Australian Airlines will for QF - as an aside, those who think current QF F/Deck crew will operate AA flights - a look at the ANZ/SJ relationship may help shed light on such airline inter-relationships - NOW - I have tried to keep the above factual and free of any abuse - wonder how long before another attack of West Island vitriol is poured down on me/ANZ/NZ???

enlighten us, what is the relationship with SJ/NZ in terms of pilots, we on the "west island" have no idea.

What possible reason would Aussies have to denigrate New Zealanders??

Besides, it would be like abusing a dumb animal, you would end up feeling sorry for it. And I would hate that to happen.

bronte,
The two piloting groups are run as seperate operations, seperate companies. I don't work for the companies, someone might beable to shed some more detail.

nzer....As humble as the 733 may be, AKL/ADL is easily possible with almost full pax load.
FYI: -45 kt component , MEL as altn and flight time of just under 5hrs. But stuff that for a long time in a small tube... <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
