1971. Aeroamazonas DC3 HC-ANJ while on a ferry flight, collided with a hill at 5100m at Nevado Sahto Isabel in Colombia.

1973. Pan Am B707-321C N458PA, diverted to Boston (Logan) after smoke filled cockpit, and crashed there.

1975. Kenting Atlas Aviation DC3 C-FOOY, did a wheels up landing after running out of fuel, at Frobisher Bay.

1980. Latin Carga CV880 YV-145C, crashed on takeoff during crew training at Caracas, Venezuela.

1980. Aero Express DC3 TG-BAC, crashed and caught fire at Yaxchibal, Guatemala.

1993. Transaereos Camba CV440 CP-2212, emergency landing after engine fire, aircraft destroyed, at La Paz, Bolivia.

Seems I missed at least one....

1994. Air Liberte Tunisie MD83, landing at Kajaani Airport, Finland.

Well it is a slow news day aviation wise, so I was messing around and started searching for things that happened today ( November 3) in aviation. Kind of like in the newspaper when they have "it happened on this day". So these are all the airliner accidents that happened on this date over the last 30 years.

Also I guess you could say I was bored.... :rolleyes: ;) :D

1972. Aeroflot AN24 SSSR-46202, crashed on final approach at Kursk, Russia.

1972. Balkan Bulgarian IL14 LZ-ILA, diverted from Sofia due fog, to Plovdiv but crashed into a mountain.

1976. Bali International Air Service F27 PK-KFR, landing accident in Indonesia.

1978. Nordeste Linas Aereas Embraer110 PT-TBF, at Bocaiuva, Brazil.

1980. Cyprus airways CL44 5B-DAN, unable to lower gear on a training flight at Akrotiri, Cyprus.

1980. TAAG Angola B737-200 D2-TAA, landed short and aircraft destroyed at Benuela, Angola,

1982. Talair Embraer110 P2-RDL, damaged beyond repair at Port Moresby, PNG......

1993. China Airlines B747-400 B-165, skidded off runway into Hung Hom Bay, attempting to land at Kai Tak (HK) in very bad weather.

1994. Trigana Air Service Twin Otter PK-YNM, crashed into a cloud covered ridge at 7050 feet near Nabire, Indonesia.

This last one, I sincerely hope NO PPRuNers were involved in... :rolleyes:

1995. Americana Colombia Caravelle HK-3962X, damaged landing on a dried up lake bed at Cabu San Lucas, Mexico. Aircraft was found to be carrying a large supply of cocaine, and using false rego of HK-4029X, and was subsequently destroyed by Mexican Federal Police......

The Caravelle drug runner which crashed in Mexico in 1995 was better known to us down here as Air Caledonie International's F-GEPC "Marina". Sad end to a lovely looking aeroplane.

That one was a little before my time here lame, but I've heard the story. The point it brought home to me was that I HAD forgotten all about it. Maybe we all forget the lessons of history too easily, huh?

Perhaps there should be a dedicated "On this day" thread for each day of the year. Methinks it'd be a valuable refresher for all of us, because the same sort of things seem to keep happening despite all our professionalism and precautions.

As far as RDL is concerned, it just goes to show you can't take off in a Bandit with the handbrake on no matter how pi$$ed/Hungover you are :D ;)

Beyond repair??? Only the bloody cockpit and tail feathers were left. The rest of Bandit Ser No 300 was molten aluminium.......

Lame tomorrow, November 5 is my dad's birthday. 78 going on 16. On his 3rd WRX and loving it! :D

He is a veteran of the Middle East, New Guinea and Borneo in the 'Big One', and Hiroshima with the BCOF after the 'Big Bang'. He lied about his age to join up at age 16. A truer Aussie you'd be hard pressed to find....
