RAAF selection q

Hi all,

I've recently completed the 1st stage of direct-entry pilot selection, and was fortunate enough to get thru with brain (mostly)intact

The recuitment officer wasnt able to give me any real idea of the possible timeframe between this phase and the TW flight screening i.e. "sooner rather than later" (i understand they cant say with any certainty) - i ask only because i'm making plans to move interstate for work reasons and i would likely delay if the wait were a month or two.

I can appreciate that the timeframe will depend to a large extent on how well an individual does at stage 1, hence their position in the applicant pool.

My question is - for anyone who has been thru the process, or who knows someone, how long was it between the two phases ? I guess i'm just trying to get an average such that i can make some plans for the next few months.

cheers,. .dave

Dave,. .Go to the Australian Air Force Cadets Bulletin Board and do a search in both General Discussion and the Flying forum for something like 'Flight Screening' or similar words.

Lots of the cadets have been through Flight Screening and there may be some clues there as to when/how the screening is done.

Hope it helps.

No dramas but further to my last, just sign up and ask the question and someone will either come back with the info or do a search and at least list some of the relevant threads.

Just make sure you sign off with your name, location similar to how the other people on the BB do. The moderator across there can be a real Nazi!!

If you do a search also for posts by 'Torro' then you will get some good goss. He did flight screening last year and is currenly slugging his guts out through the first six weeks at ADFA.

Good luck!

Know one guy who got A1 rating for testing then waited 2 months to go to flight screening, and one guy who only had three weeks in between. Depends not entirely on how well you did, also on how many people there are waiting. Contact canberra recruiting and explain and ask them.

Well done MacTuc.. .You were obviously okay with the eyesight problem.

Good Luck. .fnb

Tony,. .thanks for the additional info. wilco on the sign-up and post. that's quite a forum you've got running over there, seems to be a good deal of useful info for the young hopefuls.

Schlarp2,. .sure, i can appreciate that the number of applicants also factors into the timeframe. at the risk of labouring the point, do you know (approx) which month of the year the two you spoke of went thru stage 1 testing ? and for that matter, how well the second person fared in the initial tests ?

i hear the applicant numbers (hence timeframe) can vary significantly throughout the year. i would expect that feb/march would be reasonably popular given that uni/tafe/other educational courses are starting around this time. does anyone know more on this ?

FnB. .yep, i've been fortunate enough that the eyesight hasnt proved too much of a prob so far, tho it may come under scrutiny if i make it further in the selection process. thankyou for your well wishes. i've been following your thread about RAAF life - alot of good discussion and advice in there. i wish you all the best in your decision

thanks again all for your assistance,. .dave

MacTuc,

I have also recently gotten through the first stage and have just got my date for flight screening which is approx 7 weeks from the day I did my testing. I am not really sure how I did in the first stage relative to other applicants although the vague feedback I got was reasonably encouraging.

I hope this helps.

cheers Spag,. .congrats on getting through the stage 1 - can you let me know more precisely when you did the testing (i.e. month).

the point may seem a little trivial, but i'm trying to get an average wait-time so that i can mitigate a (potentially) great loss of funds in moving interstate.

my own feedback was also reasonably positive, so i can only hope the timeframes will be similar.

all the best for your flight screening, do let us know how you get on.

thanks again,. .dave

MacTuc,

I did the testing in late January and found out a little over a week ago that my Flight screening was to start mid March. I hope that helps you make a decision.

Send me an email if you want to discuss it further.

Good luck to you also and I hope they enlighten you with a date soon :)

Cheers,

spag
