Ansett MK2 - who will fly?
 
My money says it will be seniority-based, using the excuse that the senior Captains need currency - this of course can be achieved with 1 or 2 sectors in most companies, so there should be enough flying to SHARE.
Just as importantly, how will the salaries be paid?

Apparently the Government has agreed to a 3 month guarantee (which the administrators have said is all they need to see whether AN MK2 will be a goer) of the AN flights. It's also enough time to allow Virgin and QANTAS to expand at a reasonable rate.

Interesting times ahead!

I had also wondered about this Kaptin and wonder if this is a double edged sword for the crews involved- especially the more junior ones.

If they do apread the flying around, everyone gets a couple of sectors per week. Crews hang on hoping to get a guernsey when perhaps they would be better off getting out into the marketplace and getting a job elsewhere.

The Catch 22 there is that if they resign, they lose any redundancy pay that may come about.

The options as I see them are pretty poor.

1. Hang around for the three months and hope things improve so that you still have a job,
2. Pull the pin now and go free market on a softening world wide aviation situation and lose any super payouts,

Are there others?

Not having a shot at AN, just wondering where all this is going!

have heard that they will be using whoever is current,regardless of seniorority.They have accountants running them now,ego's dont count!

Ilooked at the tea leaves and they said that anyone with an association with 4 engines and/or US equipment will most definitely not be flying this weekend!

If Kendells in Adelaide is any indication then it is by invitation only.Some senior guys left out and junior guys invited back. If you have a check due shortly forget about going back.

Good to hear you're interested and not having a go.

Super can't be touched. That's law.

APA announced today that a deal had been struck that a resignation now to take up work elsewhere will be treated as a redundancy, so it's not all bad.

I wish them all luck too.

Well we can hope that flight department/supervisory pilots lead by example in this situation and permit the "indians" a fair go. The old habit of days gone by of avoiding the rough trips and not working on weekends and public holidays should cease. They should be subject to the same roster practices as everyone else.

The removal of some dead wood acquired in recent years would be helpful.

If, as has been reported in the press, the administrator honours existing awards, will every A320 pilot get a min guarantee 55hrs per month, whether they fly that or not?

You mean, like the 146 pilots do you the the?? I seriously doubt it, remember, the administrators will pay for work done only. The new owners, if any, will determine what they want to pay.

The irony continues! schlonger now says everyone must resign to save themselves, and their entitlements.

Hence, schlonger any job vacancies will now be open to EVERYONE, because "you resigned" - however, priority will be given to taking back ex-AN pilots, but slots are limited, and you're going to have to work harder.

Hey I'm an ex-Ansett Pilot ( from 89 ). Maybe I could get a 320 command?

Funny that a guy who turned his back on fellow Pilots in '89, is quite senior with lots of hours and probably money should operate the first flight. Seems very out of character for him doesn't it?

At no time did I say that everyone had to resign. I did say that the administrators have said that if you choose to resign, i.e., a new employer wants to see the resignation acceptance, then it will be treated as a redundancy for the purposes of entitlements.

You are indeed a tragic creature.
