Post Whispers - October/November '01

Gidday again, y’all. I’ve had a bit “on” over the past months and have been neglecting you, for which I’m sorry. These bits and pieces are here to perhaps give you a bit of an idea what the go is up around the Cape and associated areas. If you might know of any changes in this info, please feel free to post any amendments that there may be to them underneath this post. Big T, I will contact you again Sir, I do apologise if it would appear that I have been rude in not getting back to you, but I’ve been snowed-under with work.

We shall begin…….

Aero-Tropics
RPT and charter. Fleet - 2x PA31, AC50, C310, 2x Baron, 5x BN2, 2x P68. All enquires to Ian Cooper, Deputy CP in Cairns on 4035 9138. Pilots require the CAO requirements for RPT to get a look in. I can’t seem to get their website to work anymore?!?

Aquaflight
Established Seaplane operator in Cairns. DHC-2, DHC-3. Not sure of minimums. Go here… http://www.aquaflight.com.au/

Brazzakas Cape York Helicopters
Charter - One R44 on the field. Pilot very busy. Not too sure of the phone number. Number on Horn is 4069 2233.

Cape Air Transport
Charter - PA23 (Cherokee 6), C206, P68. CP is Scott Bloxam, based in
Cooktown Ph 4069 5007.

Cape York Air
RPT/Charter, mail and flying training – C150/C172/C182/C208, BN2, Pn68, 2xPa-31’s. CP is based in Cairns. Ph: + 61 7 40359399, contact details are on their website…. http://www.capeyorkair.com.au/

Heliadventures
Go here… http://www.heliadventures.com.au/

Northern Air Services
Charter - 2xBN2, 2x AC50. CP is based on Horn Island. PH 4069
2777. Not sure of minimum requirements, though.

Regional Pacific
RPT - DH6? (think that’s right - Twin Otter). High requirements for a job. Need ATPL with time on type to get a look in. Co-pilot position obviously less, but they still want time on type. CP… is known to frequent these boards!

Skytrans
Charter only in Torres Straits. 2xBN2, C310. All pilots Cairns based on a two on/two off rotation between Horn Island and Cairns. CP Gary Thackem. Very high requirements as well. Try here…. http://www.skytrans.com.au

Reef Helicopters
Charter – 3 x Bell 206, 412. Heard on the
grapevine (a few weeks ago) that they were looking.

Reefwatch
Lotsa stuff… part of GAM. AC500 Shrike. Go here.. http://www.reefwatch.com/

Surveillance Australia
Airwork - 2xBN2 based on Horn. I hear they were looking as well, but there's been enough posted on pprune if anyone was seriously interested. http://www.surveillanceaustralia.com.au/

M a c a i r
RPT. Metros 3/23, Saab, Twin Otter, Bandit. Higher employment quals required. The Operator

Well doesn't that little problem make that one interesting...??

Now, if I’ve missed anybody (or their organization), could you do me (and the others who are actively engaged in seeking info on these employers) a huge favour and post their details here?

Of further interest would be this website… http://www.chariot.net.au/~theburfs/regional1.html ,a little outdated, perhaps, but maybe still useful to some.

Hopefully I do not have to remind everyone that these posts of mine are the work of people like you, just helping those of you out that may not have access to some of this info any other way. It is not intended to be an endorsement of one company over another, and is not a reflection of their operating procedures or is it meant to be construed as such.

Is there anyone from between Cairns and Brisvegas who might also be able to help me put the next one together? Please contact me.

Regards….
The Goss.

The Goss

Thank you for that.

Is the PPRuNe censor thingy giving you trouble?

If it IS the name of the company and the Companies Office will allow them to register it then who are we to complain.
I'm sure you know how to defeat the censor.

Thanks again TG,

I was only thinking the other day that it has been a while since we've heard from you.

Keep up the good work, people like me will always be out here waiting for that golden bit of info we need.

Cheers,
TL

The Goss,

You missed Hinterland.
Everything from the Bongo to 400 series to Kingair. A caravan too. No movement atm.

CP always seems to have time for a chat and offer you a bit of advice when you are looking around. Sadly there are not more like him.

Surveillance also have a BN2, Rheims 406 and a DHC8 or 2 parked in CS.

Good work mate!

Cairns has (rightly or wrongly) generally quite high multi time requirements. About 4-500 is seen as the general minimum for the bloke off the street, when the recruiting was happening in earnest.

It is also a very difficult market for female pilots. Those companies which work in the straits would have great difficulty in employing a female pilot as I am told the vast majority of their passengers (Islanders)are uncomfortable flying with female pilots, for cultural and a couple of other reasons.

As 3 of the main companies start all thier pilots off up there, it is pretty hard to get a look in.

Stallie, I must admit to being human. I looked back at my original set of notes and discovered that between the first draft and second, the old "pilot error" crept in there somewhere. Thanks for bringing that back for me, we'll have to start measuring those favours in cases.

Just on another subject, did you get that email last week?

Cheers,
TG.

Thanks, I did get it mate.

Just been rather hectic with work, women, househunting & moving house for the 13th time in 2.5 years. Funny, I thought I'd be quicker at it by now.

I'll send you the invoice for the Boags.

Thumbs up

Alas, only 4 more weeks until I leave the party life of uni and depart into the unknown.

Hopefully all these Wispers chronicals will make it a little easier on a GA virgin like myself.

Thanks again for the info TG, much appreciated.
