I would have to agree with Capt Claret.. .. .Puff, the initial purpose of this thread was asking about the notam describing the disabled 210 on the runway at Groote.. .. .As for Bagot's post, maybe, just maybe it might be enough to dissuade the next young guy out there who might be temporarily thinking about throwing his usual professional standards out the window to succumb to the thrill of a low level pass in front of his mates.. .. .I'm sure the family and friends of this young man would not object to the possibility of saving another young life through Jason's legacy.

True words Jose ... .. .Clarrie it was the timing, and I think you'd agree perhaps the generalisation of this accident being akin to the possibility of it being related to tom foolery as per BCL's initial post .... .. .There are witnesses to the last few seconds of this tragic accident, the recalling of that for them is horrific. . .. .I am sure that they are also a party to reading this forum.. .. .I am sure, that with the passage of time facts will come to light that will reveal the cause of the accident, and I would strongly suggest that a young mans passion for flying has been curtailed because of something other than a moment of silliness.. .. .His friends and workmates very obviously had the utmost respect for Jason, and his desire and ability to succeed in this fickle of world of aviation.. .. .On the wings of an eagle .... . . . [ 30 March 2002, 06:56: Message edited by: The Voice ]

Big Fella you'll be sorely missed by all those people whose lives you've touched, some momentarily, others for the rest of our lives - your memory will always fly strong.. .. .From an eager student to a solid professional, a great down to earth bloke with an infectious laughter that literally brightens up a room. There was no way you could help but feel great when this man was around, always in form.. .. .It need not be said how much you'll be missed but never forgotten. Mate, we're all here thinking about you in Sydney and having many beers in your honour tonight. Deepest sympathy to family and his darling fiance Carly. There are a set of wings here with your name on it that a better bloke couldn't have earned more. Rest in Peace.. .. .Part of you will keep flying with all of us.

I used to work up in the Kimberleys - my first thought was that this could be someone I knew. Fullest sympathy

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, — and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of — wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there,
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air. . . .

Up, up the long, delirious burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark, or ever eagle flew —
And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untresspassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

— John Gillespie Magee, Jr

My condolences and thoughts to family and friends.

Thumbs down more GTE C210

C210 incidents and accidents have not been uncommon in the NT over the last decade....let's await the outcome and resist 'our own theories of flight'...particularly by those who haven't been there....

Cheers

from the top-end of flight-training

I agree we should wait but nothing wrong with discussion.

Why not people " who have never been there"? Do aircraft fly differently there or don't we understand your unique circumstances?

To give you an idea of the difference in performance between the colder southern climates I was lucky enough to sit up the front of a B1900 while zipping along at 20 Grand a month ago. We were grounding about 230-kts yet the Kiwi pilots said that in NZ in similar conditions it would be about 290-300kts. So yeah - Darwin like many tropical areas has its own unique challenges.

Words cannot describe the greatness of this Man!

I am honoured to have called Jason my friend.

We will always remember him for being:
Greater than life itself
Unbelievably happy
and an Inspiration to us all, in so many ways.

God bless Jase!
