Not another moving north thread...
Hi guys, I know it's been done a million times before, but...
I'm keen to make the move up north, however I won't be able to for at least another 3 months.
I know most of the hiring seems to happen at the end of the wet/start of the dry season but, if you weren't to make it up there until say, May, is there much chance of a job or are they all well and truly filled by then?
By the way, a little extra info, I'd have approx 600hours, looking at doing MECIR either up there or just before the move, but aiming at SE VFR charter.
Also, starting point would ideally be Cairns area, then moving around(anywhere) if no luck there.
Thanks for your help/advice/opinions/whatever else you've got
(btw, I have searched...)

A former chief pilot of Air North once told me that generally the people that would get hired were friends of guys that already worked for him. So don't overlook the importance of networking. You need to be out there personally handing out the resumes but if you can get some contacts on the inside it makes it a lot easier, landed a couple of jobs that way myself. This type of thread gets re-run about this time every year and i remember reading a post a couple of years ago that ran along the lines of ... There are a heap of cessna singles out there in the bush and regional areas, it's the junior cpl's job to get out there and find them, and I think that pretty much sums it up for those starting out, good luck!!

Merlin, thanks for the links, I have actually read those threads, but cheers anyway
Dixondik...I'll try and be as polite as possible,
I'm not asking to be spoon fed to the airlines, I'm not asking for any free rides or anyone to do the work for me, I simply believe in making as educated a decision as possible based on any information I can get before making such a big move. If I had just finished my CPL and had no flying work already I would have been there months ago! As it is, I have a job, flying, and I enjoy it. Problem is the work is slow at best, and not much progression, therefore I'm keen to look elsewhere. Forgive me if after trawling through pages of previous threads and archives, and still wanting to hear if any one has an opinion on the current climate and prospects somehow rubs you up the wrong way. Like I side, I'm not asking to be spoon fed, I just believe it would be foolish to charge up north without finding out everything I could before hand, to then find no jobs there, and have no job back here either. After all, slow and sporadic is better than nothing at all!

Just head up there mate, I'll meet you up there in a few weeks time when I get up there myself. While I share your concerns, life is all about risks, screw it, just get up there!
Silly Old Git
I say often in here if you have any other work skills (tradey, good dosh)there is no shortage of work in DRW to tide you over
Just remember, its BLOODY expensive to live here but no more so than the NW.
