Best School in Moorabbin?

I am looking at doing an instructor rating at Moorabbin in April and May. Any recommended schools? Which ones to avoid?
Anyone else thinking of doing one then?
RVAC website said $14500. Is this the going rate these days??? Do they do all the 50hrs with a grade 1?
Thanks,
BTM

MFT

Impressed me from the interaction I've had with them.

Have a read here to find out why it is pointless to post such a question here:

Another Vote for MFT

Hi

I am planning to do an instructor rating at MFT. Cameron runs the course, and he has a great reputation. With CASA requiring their own officers to do the initial grade 3 instructor rating test, many candidates from all over the place have upgraded their training with Cameron to pass the test. So currently they are quite busy.

They have a number of grade 1 instructors.

And a great atmosphere! I did my CPL with them last year.

Good luck

I find it very amusing that single posters are giving credit for how wonderful a certain flying school is and to set your profile to NT is a cunning trick that hasn't been seen here before Do you work for MFT Mr. Torsion?

Comments like those de-value the site's usefulness to those that are generally interested and requiring valuable information on which to base their decisions.

XXX, what are you smoking? Did you not read his post...he got his MECIR a few years ago, hence you'd assume he'd be in a job somewhere up north...NT...can't people have good words to say about an organisation, which is what the original poster was after, without being shot down in flames?

PS. Another vote for MFT here...moved there from EN last year and the place is fantastic!

Sorry, BUT, quote from Tailwheel only yesterday:

Another type of thread that gets up our nose:

Quote:
"I'm thinking of doing a TIF/GFPT/PPL/CPL/Space Shuttle Endorsement etc. What is all the good and bad about flying schools at Bankstown/Archerfield/Upper Wallop"
Or words to that effect, by a new user, often first post. Our achives must contain hundreds and hundreds of pages on almost every flying school in Australia - why don't users use the Search function?

This inevitably leads to some pre pubescent kid, posting from the vast experience and technical competence of a 15 minute TIF, to post:

Quote:
"Don't go to XYZ Flying School, they are a rip off and their instructor Fred Nurks is an incompetent idiot."
Then we have a potential libel or defamation case on our hands! There is no such thing as "free" speech on this or any other web site, nor is there total anonymity on this or any other web site - as some have discovered to their detriment over the years.

Or inevitably, the other type of response:

Quote:
"I did my GFPT/B747 endorsement at ABC flying school and they are excellent."
Which a little research by Mods confirms comes directly from that school's owner or CFI - check the links - trying to get in a free plug!!!

Search function is there to be used.

Look, poor bushtuckerman just wanted some straight forward advice.

He mentioned only RACV. Why don't you guys just do the honourable thing and send him straight there ?

Gday Bushy
My advice is check out the schools personally, ask to see the syllabus of the course, make sure all sequences and briefs are covered, as per Civil Aviation Order 40.1.7 Appendix I.
I realise price is important, but cheapest may not be best.
From now on you will be required to take your initial test with CASA, this has come to pass, as a minority of schools have not been carrying out the full syllabus, and passing candidates, which don’t meet the required standard,
I’m not about to mention which schools for obvious reasons but they will now have to pick up their game.
Ask if after completing the course would they be prepared to employ you, if that’s what you want.
I apologise if the above has been covered on earlier posts.
Cheers Q

I believe we can answer BTM's message without defaming other organizations. All we have to do is say who we recommend without slagging off the other companies. I note that many people in here have done that. By the absence of recommendations BTM should be able to deduce who we think he should avoid, all without being spiteful.

Walrus recommends MFT, MFS or MAS, Infer what you like about the groups I haven't mentioned.

These sort of questions, I believe, is where PPRuNe can be most valuable.

Would be more like the unfortunate thing for us to send him straight there! Actually, it would be the unfortunate thing for bushtuckerman to be sent there.......

Go to each place that you think you might like to learn at. Decide for yourself.

MFT

I'll recommend MFT as well!

IMHO, MFT is HEAD AND SHOULDERS above any of the other schools at MB. Glen and Cameron are fantastic people, as well as excellent instructors.

DIVOSH!

(Disclaimer, DIVOSH is post pubescent, doesn't work for MFT, and his TIF was over 20 min)

MyNameIsIs, I was trying not to make an opinionated statement when I suggested sending bushtuckerman straight to RACV.

Maybe we should qualify that and say he should go straight to RACV so that he can find out for himself - no insinuations there - we are just trying to be neutral in this mud-slinging thread.

I wouldn't send BTM to RACV (Royal Automobile Club of Victoria) either ... not unless he's got a flat battery or has locked his keys in his car.
