Irish Aviation Site...
 

It seems that the Irish Aviation Web site is currently un-available. …
Could this be because a number of contributors were attempting to get a group organised with a view to fight against what seems to be a kind of dictatorship emerging that is beginning to bite hard against the GA section of the community.

Perhaps someone who has some ‘clout’ has seen fit to disable the site, by fair means or foul, to prevent the group forming and having a voice that could make a positive difference with regard to the life of a GA PPL here?

Or am I just being a bit paranoid ??

Anyone got any ideas ?
Could it just be the blaster worm, or similar, has knocked them out temporarily ???

Just read some of the posts about Danny’s victorious participation in disposing of another filthy paedophile and would like to add my congratulations. Well done. From a father of two young daughters…

It might be a bit paranoid to think that the powers that be have nobbled the site.
Bureaucrats are bureaucrats; they want an easy life and if smothering private aviation will make life easy they will do it unless someone fights back.
And we Irish tend not to fight back against them. Any organisations we start immediately follow Brendan Behan's advice and have "the split" as the first item on the agenda.
Is Irish AOPA an example of this? (Hmm... provisional AOPA, continuation AOPA and "real" AOPA...)
The most amazing thing about Irish Aviation (apart from our inherent laziness, of which I admit to be a leading example) is that Irish fixedwing, chopper, microlight, glider, hangglider and balloon pilots never communicate with each other, nor with skydivers, even though we all have the same interests of minimal and intelligent regulation of licensing and airspace.
To use a common Irish phrase, "Someone should do something..what's on TV?"

Why don't you ask Danny if he will set up a section for Irish matters on PPRuNe?

Yeah an Irish section on pprune would be handy! Any ideas how we could go about requesting that?

Its a real shame it went down yet again. It had such great potential and some real progress was starting to be made among Genral Aviation community in Ireland, in relation to the backwardness and backhanders of the authourities, you really do have to wonder why it went down at such a crucial time in the debates.
Despite all the slagging it was good and I learned a lot about the Aviation community in Ireland.

Come on Danny any room for another Forum?

Probably not for a while - our service is crap at the moment until we yet again upgrade the server.

It's presently dual 1 gig processors with 1 gig of ram running through a dual SCSI hard disk raid - forgotten the striping/mirroring config at the moment.

We're busy raising the money for an upgrade at the moment and as soon as we start crowing about the switch to a dual or quad 2.4 gig system feel free to ask again.

You could also use the Private Flying Forum that we have here. It would be great to see more pilots from Ireland there. :)
