ISP's

I know its was discussed a few months ago but I would like to get an update on recommended ISP's. I have used Flyer for several years but recently have found that the connection has been particularly poor. (56k Modem, ADSL not available here yet). I think the problem is the contention as when the comms are actually taking place, as indicated on the modem, the speed is what I would expect however at times I have to wait up to a minute for the server to actually begin communicating (ie if I attempt to go to a web page I have to wait for the download to actually begin). I wrote to Flyer concerning this but received a "standard" reply which seemed to indicate that my letter had not been read properly. It even recommended "trying" their metered (0845) service!

Our area will have broadband available in the next few months - I am concerned that I will then (if I choose to subscribe) be committed to a contract of several months and don't want to be with an ISP that overloaded and therefore slow.
