Re-sizing Windows

Fast Pentium, broadband, win2000, IE6. When I open a new link using right click and 'Open in New Window' the new window opens at about one third size. I have tried everything I know (which is not much I grant you) to get it to automatically open fully every time, but to no avail.

Help! Any expert out there know a way to fix it?

FJJP,

The only way I know of in Windows is:

1) Open a Window

2) Resize it to the size you want

3) Close that window

Then all the rest of the windows you open should be to that size.

Thanks for that Richard, but that doesn't work.

Have you tried the following:

1) Ensure that the "parent" window that you start on is not maximised.
2) Open the "child" window.
3) Close the parent window
4) Resize, not maximise, child window and close it

What works for me is "grabbing hold" of one of the corners and dragging it to enlarge the window. Then do the same with the opposite corner. Then go to File->Close, rather than closing the window with the X. Next time I open a window, it's that size.

However, I never right click on links to open a new window as you describe, so I cannot say if that situation is different. Presumeably there's a need for you to open links in that manner?

Cheers

I have started to encounter MANY sub-Windows that appear with the 'maximise' button greyed out - and it will not allow pulling out a side or corner with the mouse.

The window appears as a set size - and there appears to be NO control of it.

Hi

A very helpful Ppruner gave me this link recently when I was having problems with windows arriving minimised all the time.

There is as FREE utility on www.jiisoft.com that should do the trick.

It's working for me at the moment .....

Bug, I use the facility because if I am surfing and hit interesting sites with lots of additional links, I found that I was getting lost - by opening links in new windows, whilst I would have many windows open, I could shift between them with ease.

Wcollins - you're a genius! How the hell did you find that little nugget??!! It works perfectly - problem solved.

Thanks to all of you who replied - yet again the Pprune officianados strike again!

Here at the Towers we work with a lot of windows open at any single time. Can't recommend highly enough the new breed of software offering tabbed browsing.

Sadly, I used to be a programmer (thank God I've now grown up) and you sort of get a feel for when things have dirty flags, when they save their settings and when they overwrite each other's settings - I spose.

I tried the parent window stunt - didn't solve my problem.

Want a sad muppet example??

Internet Explorer, menu at the side "Games" (click), new window opens at new window size - click on any particular game, another new window opens at same size.

Microsoft (being Microsoft) say "Do you really want to play this game". Click "play now" and yet another new window opens - but too small and will not resize or maximise.
