PDF Files - cause a page freeze

Hi Guys,

I download a lot of PDF files and more often than not, after I shut them down (after reading) the result is a page freeze - the mouse arrow won't activate any hyper-text on screen.
The only way to resolve it is a Ctl+Alt+Del and remove the offending "task" - which of course prior removing says, "not responding".

Do you all have the same snags with these files or is it my system not coping ?

I have the latest Acrobat Reader 5.1.0 17/09/2002.

Am I missing a plug-in ?

Any advice welcomed.

Cheers

TG

Virtually any system should be able to read PDF files....

Did you install v5 over another version? could be as simple as a .DLL file not being upgraded along with the rest of them.

May well be worth uninstalling ALL versions of Adobe Acrobat on the PC, Rebooting, Downloading the latest and re-installing.

I would not re-use the version you have just in case that one has a bug (or something odd!) in it, hence my suggestion to downloaded the latest.

Gary.

Re-install

Hello there Gary,

Thanks for that info.

I will do as you suggest, and see if it solves the glitch.

As I recall, I did the upgrade whilst the older version was still on the machine, then I deleted the older one !
I thought the upgrade would blend/share .dll files with the older version OK - obviously not.

Cheers

As a rule, never delete always use the unistaller provided or Add/Remove programs otherwise unexpected results WILL occur!!

I hope is does fix the problem for you!

Looks like this one is covered, but if this doesnt cure it, try looking on adobe's site for any knows bugs / conflicts.
