Low System Resources? HELP!

When using a MS product like outlook or word, my system resources available are never above 60%. What does system resources available relate to? Free HDD space, RAM?

Crashes and freeze-up are becoming increasingly frequent, and no major software up-dates were done. Just the updates of Anti-virus software and WIN critical updates. It gets to the point where it REALLY pisses me off.

Got an old 133 Mhz, 80MB Ram, and about 250 MB available HDD on the C: drive and WIN98.

Thanks,

Thanks! The ol' machine is dying....

If the 'ol machine is dying then its time to train a new pup.

They are cheap enough to build if you feel comfortable doing that.

If not then have a look at www.microdirect.co.uk , select systems on the menu then cursor down to 'systems - md set builds'

The cheapest one is the omega build at £247 + VAT. It has enough bells & whistles to satisfy most people and needs just a monitor and an operating system to be a complete working system.

Use this as a base spec & price while checking out the local shops.

Don't spend too much - it takes money away from flying.

Hi Squawk 7777

Sounds like you're running short of RAM - 80 mb is quite low these days!

You probably need 128 mb as a minimum and 256mb or 512 mb much better!

I guess an upgrade will be needed to really change your situation (gulp);)

I wish I would be happy with my computer ...

It is a laptop, about to turn 5. As I am about to move out of my flat, and wait for a new job, I guess I simply gonna have to wait...

BTW I heard that with WIN98 there's hardly a difference between 80 and 128 MB. 128MB is the max with this, so upgrading isn't worth it at all.

Thanks,
