Can you recommend..

a good value Desktop PC and supplier in the USA (pref FL). My boyfriend, ex US Navy, has had his puter die on him and when he took it to a techie was told the drive was dead and... the puter itself really not worth keeping (it has low memory, slow speed and is 7yrs old!!).

As he is due to be visiting UK soon he doesn't want to go mad on expenditure ( hopefully, 'cos he wants to spend money on me!!) but really wants to get back online a.s.a.p. Can you recommend a good puter please with a rough idea of how much it should be? (I think his screen / keyboard / mouse are all healthy!!).

He is also not a great puter geek so he will need something that is "plug and play" if you know what I mean - he is wanting to go DSL so needs something with decent memory and processor!

Thanks.

I can't speak about Stateside but in the UK I think if you want a cheap PC then you can't beat Morgan Computers - it's usually re-furbished kit but that's still OK.

Gateway is always good. e.g. They have a baseline PC for $599 with a 1.8GHz CPU, 128MB DDR SDRAM, 20GB HD, 40x/12x/48x CDRW and a 17" Monitor.

Dell is a USA company, similar to Gateway, pricewise performance etc. also has a good after sales service. The basic desk top is very simple to put together and operate.

http://www.dell.com should get you there.
