Vodafone outage in the UK

Vodafone broadband, mobile and customer services were all down this afternoon. So was Talkmobile's customer services. They're back up in the East Midlands at least, but if you wondered why people weren't responding to your calls or e-mails, they are probably Vodafone customers.

Even the 4G and 5G internet died and their ruddy phone lines too, including 191......I was using very unladylike language at my little mobile hotspot gizmo.....thankfully was able to find out that the gizmo was OK but the network had gone on strike by using the building's own internet (albeit very very slow).

Finally came back about an hour ago. Pesky technological defectivenesses.

I rebooted the computer, tried another SIM in the MiFi, tried disconnecting and reconnecting the WiFi USB dongle, tried the laptop, before finally concluding it was the network, so I rang Talkmobile only to find that their phone lines were down. I do tend to take the internet for granted for everything from grocery shopping to banking. Unlike a power cut, you can't just switch over to the UIPS and light some candles, there's no workaround for no internet.

It didn't affect the whole country, it seems.

I am a little surprised that there has been little or no mention of this in National news.
'Our' internet connection has been dropping off at frequent intervals and for irregukar periods over the last three days and continues today. Our 'fixed' landline has been unusable for the same period. We have had NO notification of problems nor warning of any such likelihood. Anyone similarly suffering ?

It was mentioned in the Guardian and on several regional newspapers, but was largely fixed by the end of the day. I haven't heard of people having had the recurring faults you refer to since the widespread outage on the 13th. Have you tried contacting Vodafone from a mobile phone on another network?

I have a couple of 'heritage' O2 SIMs that are Pay As You Go, no monthly charge, which I keep active (one call every six months) just as belt and braces in case Vodafone goes down; in fact Voda and Talkmobile's helplines went down too, so even calling from another network didn't help on the 13th.
