Rule 1 Connect your ADSL router to the primary socket where the drop wire enters your house. Disconnect all internal wiring to other phone sockets. They create chaos.
Rule 2. Replace any fluorescent lighting. It's the 21st century and that old fashioned stuff interferes with wireless. Rule 3. Don't forget that wireless also works vertically i.e. you can bridge between floors. Rule 4. Wires that are visible will annoy your wife. If you have a wireless music system then it may possibly be configured such that each speaker re-broadcasts the signal. I have one repeater in the hallway and the various speakers dotted around the house form a very effective wireless mesh system that gives universal coverage. If however you have a newbuild then proper cat.6 / fibre is a good idea if your kit will always be placed in a convenient location. Never forget rule #4 |
I'd definitely suggest looking into a mesh system like Google Nest Wifi for your new home. It's great for ensuring strong Wi-Fi coverage across different areas, and the system scales nicely if you need more coverage down the line. Plus, you can control everything right from your phone, which simplifies things a lot. Just as planning the right network setup can make life easier, knowing where to turn for property-related decisions is crucial. I contacted The Property Buying Company when I was exploring selling options. They provide a straightforward and transparent way to sell homes, which can be really handy if you're ever looking to sell quickly and without hassle.

If you're moderately technical (not extreme/pro level, no need) I HIGHLY recommend the Unifi equipment. It's kindof pro-sumer or entry level professional gear, but it's ROCK SOLID and easy to expand.
I use it at home and at my office building (25-30 staff there generally). Pretty much the same setup in both places. Here's what I'd recommend considering:
What I love about it? It's powerful, but not super complex to configure. And it just works. I don't have to mess with it. I have gone years and barely touched it. Once it's setup, it just works. |
