Compaq EVO 1000c or 1000v?
Has anyone owned/used Compaq EVO 1000c or 1000v notebook?
I'm considering purchasing one of them, but I would like to know the hand-on opinion. Thanks for your help in anticipation. |
Although these units are not available in the UK (and I suspect Europe) I wuld only point out that Compaq's are usually very reliable.

Thanks for that Buttons.
Have you ever had to make a service call to Compaq, and if so, how reliable were they (time-wise and fixing the problem-wise)? The other option I am considering is Dell, but their lead time for delivery puts me off, and Compaq's warranty seems much better. Any opinion on Dell (possibly Inspiron 8200)? |
This doesn't answer your question exactly, but...
I recently bought a (now discontinued- but the acessories are available) Compaq Presario 15" TFT, 1.2 ghz PIII, 512mb RAM, DVD, CD-RW, and a 64mb video card and all the usual modems, firewire etc. with XP directly from Compaq in an auction. I paid £1100 and the retail would have to be closer to £2k for that spec, I would think. Might be worth having a squizz at either the Compaq auction site or the dabs.com site (i'm not advertising, honest!). It's quite a heavy machine but I'm very pleased with it. |

Thanks for the suggestions. The problem with Dell is a ridiculous lead time for delivery they're quoting over here. They want something like $160 extra for reasonably quick delivery (1-2 weeks or something like that, although I cannot remember for certain). I prefer the look of Dell Inspiron to Compaq Evo though. Toshiba seems to be a reliable option but I am not too keen on the look of the thing (hahaha sorry to be so female about the stuff), and 5-year warranty would be wasted, as I tend to replace the laptop every 2 years or so. Hersh That sounds like a pretty good deal. However I am in Australia :D Anyone else with suggestion? The following spec is required: 1) Minimum P-4 1.7 GHz (Preferably faster) 2) 15" screen, preferably SXGA or UXGA 3) 512k RAM, may be able to live with 256k 4) All-in-one, as in no external floppy / CD etc 5) DVD / CD-RW 6) 32 MB or 64 MB video card 7) 10/100 Ethernet 8) 56k modem 9) PC card slot 10) S-video out 11) Infra red 12) Audio out (or at least headphone) 13) Min. 20 GB (30 GB preferred) HD 14) Preferably Win 2000 preinstalled but not essential 15) All other 'bog standard' features such as USB etc 16) Preferably 'looks nice'. 17) as light as it can be, max 3.5 kg Any suggestion would be very much appreciated! |
