VPN for router

Any information about connecting the home router to a VPN would be appreciated. The "G" step would be next.

You need a router that supports operating as a VPN client (not a VPN server), many routers do not support this so you would need to check if yours does. Another option is to flash an existing router with the DD-WRT firmware which supports VPN client operation but this is not for the feint-hearted as you can "brick" your router if you get it wrong.

Most VPN providers will have instructions for setting up the router on their websites and will usually have a list of compatible routers, some also sell pre-configured routers. It's worth remembering that if you configure the VPN at the router level you will always be connected via the VPN and will not be able to bypass it, many sites are now detecting VPN's and restricting access and when searching on Google you will often have to complete a captcha when connecting through a VPN, this can be a real P.I.A. !
