Battery Condition Monitor

Is there a freeware program anyone can recommend that allows me show my battery status on my laptop? I formatted and installed a clean copy of Windows (not the Compaq reinstall) and have lost my battery monitor. The programs I have found so far are all related to PDA devices and not laptops.

You will probably find that the driver for this is somewhere on the CD that would have came with the laptop when to bought it. My laptop came with a CD which contained the necessary drivers to set up the machine however they can be horribly tedious to find - it seems to be a very "manual" operation. Contrast to the nature of most software that you install, where it "sorts things out" automatically the drivers tend to have to be specifically located on the source disk and then copied to the correct place.

Hope this is some help,

FujiF :)

A laptop battery monitor comes with Windows - at least it does with ME and 2000. I haven't checked with 98.

When you right-click on an open area of your desktop and left click on Properties you get to the screen setup dialogue.
Click on the Screen Saver tab at the top (Windows 2000) and then the "Power" button. You can select a preset power scheme for a laptop or create your own and on the "Advanced" sub-screen there is box for a check mark to "always show icon on taskbar".

Also available through Control Panel/Power Options.
