Virus Misery for GameSpy and KaZaA
Web posted on 1/7/02 Two of the online world's most popular products suffer setbacks as they come under attack from viruses.
Gamers and peer to peer users were both hit in a virus double whammy this week. GameSpy.com fell victim to Nimda, and admitted in an e-mail to users that its GameSpy Arcade Installer had become infected with the Nimda-E virus. The offending software was downloaded over 3,000 times on Tuesday and Wednesday last week, but has now been replaced with a virus-free version.

Even more scarily, the KaZaA network has become exposed to Backdoor.K0wbot.1.3.B. The second virus to infect the network over the past couple of weeks, K0wbot includes a remote backdoor component controlled by Internet Relay Chat. File sharing services appear to be receiving increasing attention from virus authors, so make sure your virus protection is up to date!
