Phone interference
 

For the last few weeks we have had crackling on our BT phone line. I went through the process of disconnecting everything in turn and eventually discovered that it is my computer causing the problem (imac). The router is fine so I can still use my ipad. However the crackling stops when I switch my computer off. I have filters on all of my phone sockets.

Can anyone advise me as to how I might cure this (apart from buying a new computer)?

How is your imac connected to the router, wired or wireless?

If wired worth trying another cable to see if that stops it. If not or wireless would consider having imac checked over particularly the power supply side, if it's giving off enough RF to make a phone line crackle then something may be wrong there.

The ADSL filter may need replacing.

make sure you haven't got the cables all bunched up together.

Many thanks for the replies. It's a wireless router. Crackling disappears as soon as I switch the computer off so it looks as though I need to get it checked by an expert.

Try replacing the data filters first and make sure each and every socket has a data filter. Avoid routing data and phone signal lines alongside each other if at all possible.
