More virus stuff

Curiouser and curiouser. The rash of emails I have received for the last six weeks or so containing the Klez.H virus, all easily identifiable and easily removed, have ceased as of a couple of days ago. I assumed that whoever had me in their address book and was passing them on had their problem fixed.

Now I seem to be falling prey to viruses out of nowhere which EZ Trust anti-virus real time detects OK, but I just wonder where they are coming from. No email involved. The first couple were Acebot.04 Trojans, which went straight to Windows/Start Programs/Startup folder, from where they were easily cleaned. The last couple have been Datom Worms which have gone to Windows folder, installing themselves as MSVXD16.DLL, and MSVXD.EXE, again both easily cleaned.

But does anybody have any idea where they come from? I checked the CAI site and it said the Acebot trojan had something to do with IRC, which I don't even have installed.

I've given up trying to get useful info off the site; it's all computer-generated replies. As I said, the program is picking them up easily and it's not a major problem, but I'm curious. Any ideas?

I was told that if you use ICQ or something similar you are quite vulnerable to virus infection.

BE

That depends on how you configure you IRC software especially the use of the DCC options.

Best to scan any downloaded files with an anti virus program before opening, couple that with updating the virus software frequently, also a good firewall, should have no probs.

IRC has to be the best source of information IMHO

Can anyone shed any light on the the virus effecting p2p file sharing sites like Kaza. I saw an article on it but didn't pay much attention, now I can't find and am wondering whether it would be a good idea to stop using kaza and the like.

Disregard last post, I found the article and have posted it incase anyone is interested.
