High speed needed

Moved house recently, having been connected to cable broadband at the old house. However the new house has fibre lines (2) which BT say are unsuitable for ADSL.What are my options ?

2 fibre optic lines running into the house?? God knows what they were used for, BT private circuits perhaps but unlikely. ADSL uses your normal phone line, however it only uses the higher frequencies not used to conversation hence you can talk on the phone whilst netting, but an ADSL specific modem is required. If you need speed ADSL/Cable is your friend....

Personally I've got an ISDN connection running into my room but the company who ran it went out of business a long time ago hence its useless, I would be intrigued to find out what the optics were used for though, hell of a lot of bandwidth there.

You can use ISDN. The cheapest option is BT Home Highway or ISDN-2e which is about £30 a month and gives you 2x64K channels which can be bonded (depending on yout ISP) to a single 128K channel.

On top of that you will have the BT telephone charges - or go for Surftime which will add about £7.00 per month for Evening & Weekends or £25.00 per month anytime.

Not as good as ADSL I'm afraid.

The maximum speed is the one ISDN provides...you are too high-tech for the ADSL service! Have a look for a cable operator if that is available in your area.

blanik57, thanks for that link,I think the guy mentioned in the report is a neighbour of mine.Looks like its ISDN for me,twice the price of ADSL - Cheers BT.

Move to Cheltenham friends, 2.2Mbps all over the place :D

You end up needing a 100Gb hard drive though :p
