Hijacked browser home page.

The other day, I launched Firefox to find my home page had changed to delta homes. I had a look under Tools/Options and noticed delta homes under default search engine and also set as home page.

I deleted it from the search engine list and reset the home page and thought that would be it. On re-start, the home page was still delta homes so I reckoned that a bit more is going on.

Having done a search, I found some info on it and that is a form of malware or virus that hijacks the home page of browsers, probably loaded when doing free downloads off the internet. The only updates I had done were to CCleaner (the free version) and downloaded the latest Windows updates. Can't think of anything else.

What I then did was launch Internet Explorer which I rarely use and hasn't been used for months. That too launched with the delta homes home page so I've been infected with something. I ran a full scan with MS Security Essentials and that revealed nothing.

My search revealed several solutions but I really don't know which to trust or to be effective. There is even a delta homes web site which offers an Uninstall option. Not sure whether to try this.

I just wondered if any here has had the same experience and what they did to remove it. I made a restore point last month so I have that as an option. Not too much changed in the time since then.

Windows 7 Home Premium, Firefox 36.0.4. Thanks!

Or use the free version of adware by lavasoft.de

Have a look here.

Detailed instructions to remove delta homes from PCs and browsers.

Sorted.

ExXB, my initial search found that page but I was sceptical about using the 'auto-fix' and wasn't confident about following the manual fix.

However, I used the adware removal tool and, touch wood, it has worked.

I now have my designated home page back. Thanks.:ok:

First thing I usually try it to look in Control Panel, Programs and Features to see if there is an entry for the wayward page interloper. Often there is and you can uninstall it. Removal options can also include returning your Browser to the original settings.

I ran into a similar issue recently with my home page was hi-jacked by "binkiland".

Be careful when downloading software that has a separate custom installer.
