Slow typing in Outlook

Hi All,

Mmm, it's weird, but whenever I write or reply to an email, it's all suddenly slowed down. The longer i type and edit, the slower the keyboard gets.

I've got loads of poke on the machine;

AMD 1.4 Ghz
1 Gb RAM

It should be faster. Any ideas please?

Regards

Mo

hhmmm, I've also noticed this. It only seems to happen (for me at least) when writing a mail in 'HTML' mail format - if you run 'Task Manager' at the same time, you'll see that your CPU usage goes up to 100% whenever you're typing. It doesn't happen if you write mails in plain text or rich text (RTF) formats.

I can't offer a solution, unfortunately - you could just write mails in rich text, but I guess that would mean that your recipients would only see your formatting if they are also using one of Mr Gates' mail products (Netscape mail doesn't seem to know how to display rich text, for example...).

A cynic might cry 'conspiracy' but I tend to think it's probably just shoddy, inefficient coding in the HTML renderer built in to Outlook...

Ya. Noticed it too. Very bizarre. Most other apps too. Nothing else abnormal. Suspect virus(?) in spite of elaborate precautions. Investigating......

Yippee, I've figured it out. It's a memory allocation problem. I adjusted my memory use using cacheman and all works zippy!

Hope it helps :)

Mo Heekan,

Sounds good - can you elaborate on what 'cacheman' is and what you tweaked in a bit more detail??

Cheers,

cbl.

Sorry CBL, in my excitement I forgot to help;

https://secure.reg.net/product.asp?T...D7E0D14CE54%7D

Its a free download. It says $10, but that's voluntary. Cacheman has several wizards that are self explanatory and are system dependant. Play around with it and see if it helps

Regards :)

Well, bu**er me with a broomstick Mo Heekan! Cacheman actually worked. Have now dismissed it from run-on-bootup but the hesitations are still gone. Now trying to figure out exactly why......
Thanks

My broomstick is ready, and it's bigger than Harry Potters :)

I'm glad I can help. It's normally the other way around!

:eek:
