W8 install, dual boot

I am trying to install W8 Pro in a new partition I created, E:. I made it 100MB so it should be plenty big enough. Me problem is that when W8 starts to load it does not give me a 'Custom Install' option where I can set the new partition. It simply tries to trample over the top of the existing W7 in C:. Anyone seen this before? Any work-around?

Al the stuff I can see on the web & YouTube shows a 'Custom Install' option.

I made it 100MB
That's either a typo or part of your problem! ;)

Last time I installed W8.1 I had the option to do a Custom install. One point - is has to be to a primary partition, not an extended (logical) partition (although the executables can be on a logical partition).

Here's an online write up (not mine): Install Windows 8.1 on a separate partition or drive : Dual Boot

Yes SD it were a typo, I meant 100GB. I've have 2 primary partitions C and E. the new one shows up as;

Local Disc (E)
97.66GB NTFS
Healthy (Primary Partition)

Complete mystery

Is E blank?

If so, have you tried deleting that partition and allowing the W8 installer to "find" the empty space and create, format and install to that partition?

Are you booting from W8 installer, or launching the installer from inside Windows?

I am not able to run the disc directly. Even with the boot sequence set to DVD first it persists in loading W7. Should it be able to run the W8 setup.exe file without loading W7 first? I've tried both the ISO disc and one with the contents extracted, neither run from boot.

Have you tried allowing the bios to only boot from dvd.

Ie not allowing it to boot from hard disk at all.

I've never tried but with a sata disk you could unplug it and replug (data cable) it once the dvd has started to boot.

I couldn't boot a Windows 7 DVD until I applied a firmware update to the SATA DVD drive (TSST).

Thanks for all the replies. I'll have another crack it it next week. Off to see the tall ships race from a rather damp Falmouth.

Finally managed to get the thing set up a a dual boot. The problem was that the W8 disc I was using was not a bootable ISO and so the system was ignoring it. One lives and learns.
