W7 and Homegroup
Hello Everyone,
Ive just changed one of the pc's in the house. It is running W7 pro. The machine it replaced was the "master" for homegroup. All the other pc's/laptops in the house (running W7 too) still see the old machine and say.... Le Pen on Le Penpc-1 has created a home group on the network.... even though it does not exist. Even though I have created a new homegroup on the new pc called NewPenpc-1 I can't seem to get the other pc's to see it. I cant even leave the old homegroup. It just asks for the password for the non existant pc. Can anyone help me clear the homegroup data from the other pc's? :ugh: I hope this is clear :) Thanks LP |
Try this?

Once you've fixed it, DON'T create another Homegoup.
I had endless trouble till some kind soul told me to go for WORKGROUP. Not had a problem since. Old PC goes, new PC comes, other machines on the network carry on pretty much unaffected other than a couple of file links that need changing. |

Granted, the major benefit of domains has been lost on the home user (the ability to centrally control settings etc), but there are still benefits from a centralised or distributed security model that you won't get with a workgroup. |
Mike, thanks, that worked after a few attempts..... :)
Thanks Keef too :) Love LP |
