Photo Security

I was happily using photobucket to host my edited pics for use on pprune but I found I could access them as a continuous stream by googling on my own handle. And so could anyone else.

So pics posted for temporary use on some jb-style post were hanging around permanently against my name, accessible to all, and that which is understood on jb might perhaps be less well understood elsewhere.

To guard against possible misunderstandings I have adopted a policy of deleting all old pics. If the thread has dropped off page one then nobody is going to need to see the pic.

If you don't want it to be seen on the internetz, don't post it on the internetz in the first place..........

All this talk about using internet techniques like proxies, etc to avoid online detection is delusional.

The 7 layer OSI model used by the telcos provides 7 ways to see into what you are doing.

Of course to gain that level of access you would need some kind of authority, but then again you could have a friend who works in the telco industry who could trowel through the logs for a small favour. Seen it all. I even reckon I could even get a bunch of notorious bikers and local mafia off the hook from the subtle corruption that goes on in telco land with this spyware.

It's relatively easy to track what a known person is doing, what is difficult is trying to trace a person from the end of the trail back through several anonymous proxies in domains that discourage such activities unless it suits their purposes.

I would like to ask about a deleted thread which I suppose is a freedom of speech issue.

A couple of nights ago I contributed a comment on the Hayley Green thread. Now the thread has gone and I don't know what the outcome was. Why not just lock the thread instead of deleting it. I didn't see anything overly contentious in the thread and was wondering what the reason was for it's deletion.

I have noticed more and more vigorous moderation of late, any particular reason for this?

I too always wonder about the reasons the same as I do when somebody at work gets made redundant/canned/laid-off/terminated. Unfortunately I never get to konow for sure unless one is in the chain oif decsiion making.

Your observations are subjective (without data) and as such probably impossible to answer for a satisfactory reason.

I wonder someday if we will ever have an ombudsman to answer these posts?

Threads also vanish if the initial post is deleted by its writer.

Have no idea why anyone would want to hide or mask an IP address whilst typing into a forum, unless of course one is intent on causing offence or something similar. Of course this is a private forum and it has private rules, but because it is so publicly accessible, what is wrote would be determined to be in the public domain. If one slanders another in here or even on the likes of facebook, it doesn't to me seem or shouldn't be treated to be any different to slandering someone in person or libelling them to a newspaper. I am sure their is no stopping of opinion, but of course, there is a line to be drawn between freedom of speech on the one hand and causing offence on another. Sometimes difficult conceptions, but if like the guidelines say, it is treated like any other type of public conversation it shouldn't be difficult to see that line.
