Replacement memory module identification
I am trying to buy two more of these (the "Star-Ram" one in the picture) but there appears to be some ambiguity there, and perhaps it is mis-labelled. In any case, the description on the label appears to not be the full description.
It is a rather old PC... it has two of these already (2GB) and it needs to go to 4GB. I ordered two modules using the label contents and got the Kingston one shown, and the vendor washed his hands of the obvious differences (pin spacing etc) saying he shipped what I ordered. Can someone suggest a definite P/N, preferably on Amazon? Many thanks. |
You want a 184-pin PC3200 DIMM such as the Crucial CT25672Y40B. It's not going to be cheap: you're beyond the point where the price is rising because of rarity.
You should visit the Crucial web site (there are others): the site will be able to check your machine, and tell you what products work with it, taking into account any limitations specific to your motherboard. Not all DDR motherboards could take 2GB DIMMs, and some couldn't take double-sided DIMMs, etc. Edit: I misread, thought you wanted 2GB units rather than 1GB. It's OK; I popped them into another PC :)
Amazon.com won't ship to the UK, but .co.uk has them here. Many thanks all. |
